I'm perplexed by why he thinks viewing his mileage in kilometers makes him "move faster and keep momentum."

If he set the excercise bike on easy, he may indeed have "biked" the equivalent of 35 km. ADF's legs probably are in slightly less terrible shape than the rest of his body because he does a lot of walking (lacking a home or transportation). So 35 km on easy mode are not out of the question.
(Of course he may have ignored a decimal point and turned 3.5 km into 35)

Well, I've noticed Ahuviya reads these threads religiously so Hey Ahuviya, instead of making it some weird "tell them I said" posts on other social media how about just post right here if you are going to comment?

anyway, I'm a spinning instructor (and will use computrainers, tacx trainers as well) as well as an 'outdoor' cyclist . TBH, the "equivalency of 20 miles" is bullshit (not your assessment, but the whole notion). I wish they'd take those odometers off stationary bikes. They don't mean shit.
It just doesn't tell anyone much of anything - resistance, cadence, time are all more important factors.
That's why newer stuff uses power-meter based training.
You really want to couple that with HRT (Heart Rate Training) and the power output is a refinement on top of that.
If you have to go manual on a stationary, you really need to go PE (perceived exertion, you sometimes see it as RPE in the training docs) against time (and estimated cadence is helpful)

unless there's a back issue or you are specifically training for a dorky HPV event...the recumbent isn't very good option. You aren't getting out of the saddle into a weighted position.

The idea of "metric makes me go faster" is total bullshit too. It's a ridiculous fucked up training basis either for baseline or intervals.
it means Ahuviya is, at best, going in with no plan and is what we sometimes call "cardio bunnies". You've all seen em, they put the saddle way low so their knees can get all fucked up and pedal around with little resistance then jump on stairmaster and lock their elbows
and that's at best.

Hey Ahuviya : don't pretend to be a cyclist. If you are going to go bike snob, at least actually learn about it. or maybe better, actually do it for a while
