I have said this before and I will say it again Autism is the biological equivalent of a botched update.

Parts of the brain just don't get the right update due to a shitty download, and the sysop get's the boot option of "Revert to last known configuration that worked"the problem is when that happens the system doesnt work as expected. Function call's go missing or are wrongly addressed, the newer software can't interface with the old an vice versa, the problem is Human Brain OS is a very old install there is lots of legacy software installed on the box and a borked patch going back a few versions is bad.

Good Dev's an Sys admins can work around this, patch around the problems, Dev's an work on software updates (the parents in this case), the problem is Phil has had a bad patch big enough to make a sysadmin spray coffee all over his terminal, and the dev's are long absent an where not very good to begin with who always made unesiserrially resource hungry software, it's a critical system and arguably it's up but it's doing it's own thing in unpredictable ways and the next maintenance window is months away so you have to manage a crappy system for months or years.

That's essentially what Phil is a bad patch, society has to work around it till the next maintenance window, but he is the old buggy system getting replaced soon so it's not worth fixing.

Being autistic does not automatically make you exempt from being an asshole. People are not just going to forgive your behavior because of it, nor should they. It is possible to be disabled, yes, even autistic, without being a fucking cunt about it. While Phil is definitely autistic, he doesn't try to work with it. Instead, he uses it as yet another reason, another excuse explaining why he can't do whatever thing. The system is oppressing him because he's "latinx", because he's a trans womyn, because he's disabled, because he's autistic.

Phil only uses his autism as a label now that he realizes that he can get mild sympathy from a few patters due to it. He seems to flip-flop between it not being a huge issue, and it being a core feature of his identity. Kind of like how gender is a social construct while simultaneously not existing.

I do believe Phil would be way more functional if he never found the internet. His life revolves around ass pats and he gets into these weird online cultures and dramatically morphs himself to get as many ass pats as possible.
