John doesn't realize his "accomplishment" is on par with those guys stealing Unreal Engine assets and putting up a game on Steam in 2 days despite expending a considerable amount on time writing, coding and doing al the art all by himself.

If you only have one game and it's an awful mess, you technically qualify as a company but not really.

Brianna Wu should take a week or so and find a raid guild on World of Warcraft and try to play with the women that come into the discord for the raids. Wow. There are very competent women that can play video games but the ones that usually do play are loud and side-tracked and are usually just playing for some unhealthy nerd attention.

Besides they all play healers anyways and you only need a few of those, or one healer in overwatch, so their chances of joining a team are even slimmer.

Wu may own a gaming studio (to use the term generously) but this studio doesn't make games with any kind of multiplayer capacity. Why should anyone assume a studio that makes single-player, story driven games with absolutely no indication whatsoever that they are interested in making competitive multiplayer games know anything about competitive multiplayer games? It's like a documentary screenwriter assuming they know anything about writing a horror mystery script


EDIT: I also don't know anything about this official Overwatch league but I imagine if any game is going to have teams with women on them who have the skill to play professionally, it'd be Overwatch due to Blizzard's absurd market penetration

I would love to see the stats for Revolution Shitty compared to Doki Doki Literature Club. Sure, DDLC is free (and also based on the free-to-use Ren'py VN engine which uses Python as the programming language), but it's a massive hit because of how it completely inverts the concept of the VN by having a character fuck with the game engine in real time ("lovecraftian" doesn't even begin to describe what goes down in the game), forcing the player to manually go into the game files outside of the game environment and modify a certain asset (something that as much as Undertale was innovative, only went so far as to force-close the game depending on certain actions taken) to proceed, and most ingeniously has some extreme levels of easter eggs hidden that imply the whole game is in fact something of a marketing stunt for the studio's next game.

Oh, yeah, and the game bricks itself at the end so you can't play through it without deleting an internal flag first (not actually part of the game, as this hard-resets it).

A free game that renders itself unable to play after one full playthrough is more successful for a start up studio than a $500k money pit across iOS and Steam combined. Because it's likely the DDLC studio will have a bonanza of interest for their next title, whereas even if Giant Spacekat had a new title nobody would want to buy it.
