The company I work for has their head office in the Bay Area and my boss has invited me to go with him on a company trip next week. Maybe I'll take him up on the offer. Head over to Oakland and check out the scene there. Maybe check out a few tattoo parlors to get some ideas for some ink I've been considering having done. Meet the people, y'know? What do you fine Kiwis think?

Getting touch-ups are common if you go to cheap dive parlors that use shoddy quality ink. Since Phil is more concerned with quantity over quality, and is probably going to the cheapest parlor he can so he can get more tats for less money, they are most definitely using shitty ink that fades fast. This is backed up by the fact that he's only had ink for two or three years and they're already fading and needing touch-up work. Tattoos are definitely one of those things where you get what you pay for, which is really sad and pathetic considering how much money he's blown on tats.
Edit: and if the parlor he goes to is a quality joint, then they probably know he's a moron and a sucker and are using shitty ink since he wouldn't know the difference and will willingly return to spend more money getting them touched up.
