I wonder if by "best customer" he means that it was a request from the person who has bought the most from him in the past, or if he means the person who buys the most from him within a certain period of time will also receive this as a special, one-of-a-kind bonus? My guess is the former, although the latter could be a good way to pit the weens against each other to drive up sales, not that Chris would know about that.

I'm honestly surprised he's doing this, and kind of proud in a way. I assumed #1 was his Medallion or one he made for a friend/his sweetheart.

I don't know how he managed to run out of leather straps. He knows how many medallions were ordered and all he had to do is measure the length and multiply the number of--ooooohhhhh. Too much work, maybe. It's also possible it was pre-cut but that would take even less work.

I think the most plausible answer though is he ran out of money to buy more because he spent it instead of set aside a budget for these things.

I'm sure he's working without a budget, but he's also Chris. He's prone to missing obvious details like having enough materials for the number of orders coming in.

He most likely sees it as a strange way of "honoring" his best costumer, by telling people on facebook about it, as if it was a contest and the best buyer won.

If he is buying them from a Craft store they are just minced up leather waste, glued together and put though a shaping process and can be quite weak if you miss handle them. Real leather straps are made using what's essentially a razor blade set into a plane of varying depth you pull along a bit of leather to shave a length off in the required thickness. So it could be using the cheep kind (most likely) and he is tying them to tight and they breaking off when he is tying them.
