Capping off trans awareness week, trans day of remembrance is dedicated to those who have been killed/murdered in the last year (from 10/01/19 to 9/30/20). Autostraddle used to keep a good list but stopped doing it. Luckily a new project (complete with trigger warnings) to remember these people has compiled a very helpful pdf including the victims stats and links to articles, and brief descriptions of their demise. Real quick heres some stats:
Total 386, pdf includes up to 350.
By country
By occupation
Most not reporteds and others can probably be assumed to be sex workers or dealerz
Theres some weird causes of death just for the US in here like "shot by friend while in ambulance" or "killed by armed security in empty building." Stabbing over a wig. One lists death by cop after being found "unresponsive" but report says pulled a knife. One got killed over a blackmail gone wrong, threatening to release a sex tape. Theres no pictures but most articles i clicked on, the victim was black.
Most of the BR ones are "murdered in robbery," which sounds about right.
Thanks hard data!
