13 Years Ago Today: A Chandler Family Christmas -

Thirteen years ago today, Chris and Borb sat down to have a very Merry Christmas. Chris made Bob read a horribly embarrassing card about his Love Quest, gave Barb the Snowglobe of Fail, and a broken toy, and gave Bob VHS rips of DVDs that he wanted and kept for himself.

But for me, the true magic of the Chandler family Christmas 2004 was watching how utterly creepy and inappropriate Chris's behavior is toward Barb, and how disappointed both of his parents seem at the realization that their adult son is acting like a child. All of their hopes and dreams for their son's life must have been completely dashed in watching the way he behaved that day, and I can't help but wonder if either of them had the insight t realize that they had nobody but themselves to blame.

Merry Christmas, everyone. No matter what your holiday was like, I bet it wasn't as bad as this:

He was 22 when this was filmed. That's the saddest part. He acts like an 8 year old kid with a camera leaving a gift for Santa Claus. Instead it's a 22 year old man leaving a gift for Sarah Hammer who he is hoping will be his Christmas girlfriend.

Oh and he gives his father Fraggle Rock for Christmas too just like an 8 year old.

It's sadder than the Star Wars AND Sonichu Christmas special combined.

Was he on “invited to leave for a year” suspension from PVCC when he made this? I’ve never checked the time line and always wondered. Also, Bob’s inadvertent chuckle at “boyfriend-free”is just sad. Borb’s comment on his toys (“they just keep getting fancier”,et al) are the kind of comments you’d hear from out of touch grandparents.

I think that he was suspended from PVCC in August of 2003, so he should have been back in school by the time this all happened. Part of me wonders if Bob was laughing because he knew goddamned well that Chris was never going to find someone who wanted to date him, or just was laughing at the general ridiculousness and autism of Chris's card.

And I totally agree that Barb sounds like an out of touch grandparent in this. My own grandparents used to say the same thing about Gameboys and shit when I was a kid, "Look! He can make it move all by himself! Isn't that something!"

The lesson here is to not have kids way past your use-by date, I guess.

I honestly find this video to be one of the more fascinating ones. This is probably his greatest display of how selfish he is, and can't truly understand it. He calls himself caring and generous, and while he did care about Bob, he has no way of showing it. In a time of the year where most are worrying about others, he hasn't learned the simple lesson of 'It's better to give than receive" at 22 years old. The disassociation between himself and others had fostered for far too long at this point.
