If you find Chris and Barb's living conditions interesting, you should check out the documentary (or the film) 'Grey Gardens'.

'Grey Gardens' is the story of a reclusive mother and daughter, both named Edith Beale, who lived for decades in a decrepit mansion in a wealthy neighborhood. The two women lived together with limited funds in increasing squalor and isolation. The mansion was infested by fleas, inhabited by numerous cats and raccoons, deprived of running water, and filled with garbage and decay.

The big difference, between the Beales and the Chandlers is that the Beales, although obviously a bit crazy, come of as likable and oddly endearing.

Edith Beale ('Big Edie') clung onto her daughter after her husband divorced her and, later, her lover left her. "Little Edie' almost got away at one point, but her escape was thwarted by her mother.

'Little Edie' wanted a career as a singer and dancer and 'Big Edie' wanted her to stay home and take care of her.

I find the similarities between the Beales and the Chandlers intriguing.

It's starting to sound more like Bad Boy Bubby. White trash mom convinces her mentally challenged son that everywhere outside their apartment is filled with toxic gas. She keeps up the lie even when he grows into adulthood by taking a ratty old gas mask with her whenever she leaves. She also uses him for sex.

Her constant lying results in her son accidentally murdering her. The rest of the movie is Bubby exploring life outside the apartment.

The only thing faulty with this analogy is that the Chandlers are not as bizarrely endearing as the Beales, nor as sympathetic, nor are they Christine Ebersole. And that while there is an uncertainty about mental illness among the Beales, with the Chandlers, it's clear as the crystal that's still in the box Barb bought it in.

14BC will never be as desirable as Grey Gardens unless two-story 1970s tract houses become desirable, but I see a resemblance as far as occupants, hoarding and condition. Contents vary tho, the toys and vidya have cult appeal nearly equivalent to the Beales' Tiffany silver, and I read that there were a couple of decrepit 1930s Rolls-Royces sold by the Beales in the late 60s/early 70s, none of the Chandler cars will be as valuable as a Roller (not even the BMW and Honda, which the Aerostar exceeded the horsepower and torque of when Bob first bought it)
