If you've been regularly following the furries thread, some of this is going to be repeated, but I think this guy has reached the point that he is thread worthy.
"2 The Ranting Gryphon" (hereafter referred to as "2" or "2Gryphon") is an otherwise unemployed "comedian" who is involved with the furry fandom. His only income is the $2,600 a month he makes from Patreon for making Let's Plays and other YouTube nonsense. He has been going to furry conventions since the 90's, allowing him to befriend fandom figureheads like Sam "Uncle Kage" Conway, the chairman of Anthrocon. Incidentally, 2 has enjoyed having one or more (usually paired up with other people such as Kage) headline performances at Anthrocon (the "worlds largest furry convention" held in Pittsburgh) every year, and has toured the world going from furry convention to furry convention like some sort of furry Jerry Seinfeld. Often, these trips were either paid for by the convention or through early forms of crowdfunding spearheaded by people like Kage.
Before we get into the present, we need to talk about the past (This is going to be lengthy but it's important to understanding what's going on now IMO.) 2 has been performing his routine at conventions for many years now. For reference, his first DVD, recorded at Anthrocon, came out in 2002. I never witnessed one of these early performances, but people who have tend to agree that they were mainly lame fandom in-jokes and other bits of lolrandom nonsense mixed with him drinking.
Then at some point, 2 decided he needed to get edgier. He started posting "rants" to YouTube that attempted to be "edgy", being shot from weird angles in black and white. The most notable of these rants was posted 7 years ago, in which he suggests that people who can't deal with being cyber bullied kill themselves.
I recall that, since there were a few stories of children/teens killing themselves over cyberbullying at the time, this video did not go over particularly well. There were quite people who pondered why Anthrocon, which is peddled to the residents of Pittsburgh as "family friendly" year after year, would support a person with such opinions. The video spread across the fandom like a STD at a furry convention.
As the fandom grew, 2's spotlight began to fade. His "fans" seemed to largely be made up of the type of furries that are quickly becoming the minority. With convention attendance rising, he saw fewer and fewer bookings at the "big name" cons like Further Confusion in the Bay Area and Midwest FurFest in Chicago, leaving Anthrocon his only real big USA show (in Europe he is popular amongst German furries for some reason, but struggles to make it to their convention.) He tried to organize his own convention in LA that failed miserably. All the while he continued to post rants on Twitter and other videos to the internet.
In the years that followed the cyberbully rant, 2 has run with the "anti-SJW" theme, and it's made up a large part of his online presence while not necessarily being a part of his act. This has obviously not gone over well with the growing group of furries who consider themselves SJW's. Leading into Anthrocon 2016, 2 posted a video directly addressing "Social Justice"
And this is where things started to go bad for him.
2's stage act, is, to put it bluntly, bad. He's really not that funny. Anthrocon has posted last years show online, and if you want to watch it's right here. He does a few throwaway jokes about Trump's face before launching into two or three stories (one gets into the subject of Uncle Kage, who's 50, having sex, and the other has to do with him having explosive diarrhea while camping) that take up a majority of his time before he does a skit in the last few minutes that pokes at SJW's. It's not shown on camera but the room, which seats 2,000 people, was less than half full at a convention with over 7,000 attendees. He has made outrageous claims about his attendance numbers before, one time suggesting that 4,000 people (2/3rds of the con) turned out to fill the same room. "Alternative Facts" before those were a thing!
Months after Anthrocon 2016, word came out that 2's longtime boyfriend "Toast the Rabbit" had been arrested on federal charges relating to possession of child pornography. 2's claim that he knew what Toast had downloaded directly contradict previous statements he made in 2012 after the FBI raided his home, when he claimed he had no idea why the feds would have done that.
Within the past few days, the Anthrocon board voted to not schedule him at Anthrocon 2017, leaving him with virtually no major conventions (possibly any conventions) booking him. Perhaps it had to do with the Twitter outrage, or maybe the CP thing, or maybe they just realized he's not all that funny. He did not take it well.
After being informed that he was not going to be allowed to perform, and unable to simply tell everyone that himself, 2 hopped onto a sockpuppet account and tweeted a message saying "Can't wait to see your live show at AnthroCon 2017!" except he forgot to @ himself. He then replied to it from his main account within 2 minutes.
He first tweeted this late at night, and at the time most of the replies were supportive. But as the rest of the fandom woke up and began to find out what was going on, things got negative and people started noticing the whole "replying to a tweet not even directed at you" thing.
He tweeted sporadically throughout the rest of the day, but I think the pressure started to get to him. Because on Thursday morning he went full on attention whore and landed in the hospital.
Yes, less than 30 minutes after telling everyone he was in the hospital, he tweeted about one of his Let's Plays
All this stress of making Let's Plays and not having to write comedy for the world's largest furry convention is REALLY stressing him out, folks.
I really hope these promotional tweets are scheduled.
Could he legitimately be sick? I suppose, and if he is I'll probably feel bad for posting this. But as of right now, it seems like a convenient scheme to get sympathy and guilt the "haters" into backing off for a while, while showing the Anthrocon board that not being able to perform is literally killing him!!!
Let's see where this goes...
