It's mid October so it's only a few weeks from December. Are we doing the charity thing again?
So last year we did a drive for Semper Fi and Autism Speaks because of Jace and Chris.
Maybe this year we can donate to Habitat for Humanity because ADF is homeless. Or we could give money to a wildlife group because we can't hide from the wolf or Dobson draws bears. Maybe the Joyful Heart Foundation because of SJWs and the tumblr "I was abused for reals" crowd. I don't know I'm just throwing shit out there.

I though I'd open this thread to see if anyone else had suggestions.

The issues with the charity drive had to do with how I collected money. For easy forum upgrades you had to submit payments via PayPal and the typical transaction fees applied. I made up the difference with my own money last time, but I can't afford it this year. I don't have the patience to deal with a hundred receipts, either.

Wow I'm trying to help organize something good and you're being a shitposter, surprise surprise.

I assumed Null would have issues this year so I can't blame him if he can't do it again. Oh well.

Ignore that part on our site, but thanks. I need to reset it. Thanks for the reminder!

We met our first goal of opening a drop in center, now focusing on funding short term care for DCF. Like the last goal, it will take a while unless I stumble upon some grant funding.

I'm not opposed to this. We are legit 501c3 if anyone needs a receipt.

I like the idea of giving to Spectator, if it's too much for Null to deal with there's got to be something we can do, even if it's just spotlighting her organization.

Can you just have the donators pay the transaction fees this time? Spread out I'm sure it won't be too much of an extra charge for each forum donator.

I appreciate the support! If you do, you do. If you dont't, you dont't. I won't push either way because I'm not here for professional purposes.

@Null Regardless of the org if they take donations through PayPal the receipt is issued by PP itself. This is only for legit charities who have been verified by Pay Pal. To check the status of any particular charity you can search for them via IRS publication 78. Just google it. You can search the IRS database for current or inactive orgs.

I used to use http://guidestar.org for charities, that is, figuring out if they're legit or, if they aren't, for general research.

Guidestar is legit. They get info direct from publication 78. Same thing, different search format. Guidestar allows an org to claim their page and provide more information for transparency. Guidestar then rates the org from bronze to gold for the level of transparency provided. My org is a gold level, top 5% org.

The system isn't automated is the problem. I trust anyone's receipt. The problem is in me having to manually apply ~200 forum upgrades. I liked the convenience of having people click a forum button to receive their upgrade and then I just footed the whatever $50 was taken by PayPal.
