Our internet somehow intercepted a thesis from an alternate reality where “Charles Weston Chandler” is the subject of college essays.

In order to obtain a master's degree you have to usually write a thesis or dissertation which is like a million words long.

Some guy who looks like he grew up in Richmond, Virginia was doing a Masters of Fine Arts and in his thesis, among citing lots of historical art works also referenced "Charles Weston Chandler" and his "Pokeman/Sonichu" comics and included a picture.

Basically, he took inspiration from Christine's fine artwork and wrote a passage about the "folkloric Charles Weston Chandler" and briefly mentioned his internet life. He presumably partly used Christine's works as a basis for his own artworks which were displayed publicly at a gallery (probably within the artist's college/university).

Also, usually to do a master's degree you have to first have a bachelor's degree, so its probable this guy slipped in Sonichu after 4-6 years of higher education and all of the college debt that goes with that.

Well it really depends on "why" you decide to do the degree. It could just be for personal growth/self interest.
You also get to network with other students who are pursuing the masters degree, whereas if its just a bachelors degree its more likely your fellow students will be trash.

Its not like other degrees where you would just get employed on the basis of having the degree. You can use it as a basis from which to expand into other areas or you can use the skills you have developed from the degree into producing "better" sonichu-inspired artworks which you could sell or get into employment in graphic design or basically almost any multimedia-reliant job.

Based on this artists previous work with The King of the Hill stuff, its actually quite interesting work. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I think that stuff is quite well done. The actual artwork relevant to this degree isn't that visible from the Thesis because each photo is very small.

AFAIK all thesis are "published" which is how I was able to find this thesis in the first place. I'm not sure what the exact value of having your thesis published is, but presumably if it were of interest to other people it might get cited or read more widely which would give you a bit more influence.

I believe its also closely tied to getting further funding from grant programs and similar shit too.

TLDR: as with anything in life, you get out what you put into it. Doing a degree in fine art isn't what you do if you want guaranteed employment, but that doesn't mean it won't better you or make you more attractive to employers.
