So I’m pre-emptively creating this thread because I can only imagine there’s going to be salt for months from this.

First off in the “RUSSIA!!!” End of things:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/05/sports/olympics/ioc-russia-winter-olympics.html
LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Russia’s Olympic team has been barred from the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The country’s government officials are forbidden to attend, its flag will not be displayed at the opening ceremony and its anthem will not sound

Then of course there’s the Donald! salt
And so it begins.

They're going to have to cancel the Olympics when the salt melts all the ice and snow.

And finally the “Trangender are so much better than natal women!” Salt

http://www.breitbart.com/sports/201...ow-transgender-competitors-2018-winter-games/

IOC officials noted that they will not require athletes to compete in categories that match their birth gender nor will there be any gender or sex testing of competitors ahead of the games, Daily Caller reported

And god knows what Lil Kim is going to do.

Who knows, maybe this time the Olympics will actually be worth watching!

Especially if Fatboy lobs a nuke and ends the whole thing.

I don't think he'll do anything that dumb, unfortunately. He knows he and his country will be wiped off the face of the planet if he strikes first. I think instead, he'll lob a bunch of test missiles into the sea of japan again, maybe test a nuke and then pat himself on the back for his ability to strike fear into the heart of the world.

I really would like him to just do it already so the world can be rid of his insane ass. If he lobbed a nuke into SK, China and Russia would have to concede that carpet bombing every square mile of that country is acceptable.

It's been years since I've watched the Olympics, but I may do so, if only to see all of the women's events swept by gender-confused men and then see the lefty feminists have to pretend that some of us didn't warn them this would happen.

Personally, I'd love the natural competitive progression where being trans is a gateway onto women's Olympic teams, since the majority of biological females will not be able to perform as highly.

Soon white, cis men will be blamed for plotting to push biological women out of the Olympics all together by supporting transgender rights.

It's a never-ending cycle of self-cannibalism.

Natal women keep getting thrown under the bus for people born biologically male, go figure.

I seriously don't remember troons being an issue in the winter Olympics 4 years ago, or even in the summer Olympics 2 years ago, but this year it's obviously going to be a flaming bag of tranny shit and virtual signaling.

It's almost like something happened recently that turned the world pants-shitting autistic.

The Olympics have grown consistently more trivial and irrelevant over the past few decades, and this transgender thing isn’t helping. The only reason why most laypeople were interested in the Rio Olympics was due to news stories about how much of a clusterfuck it was organizing and selling the event, and not due to the competition itself, nor due to the fact that the Olympic Committee had finally chosen a South American country to host the Olympics. It attracted attention to the Olympics without attracting attention to the sports.

This whole transgender controversy (along with all the other recent political dribble) will result in more of the same by helping to overshadow the actual sports and the hard work it required. The Olympics has morphed from a inspirational competition of the best to just tabloid headline fodder.

It doesn't help matters either that most places the IOC selects to host the Olympics recently have bankrupted their country building the infrastructure, only to abandon it the week after the Closing Ceremonies.

The pictures of wasted space, money, effort and resources in poor countries who could have used that money elsewhere are astounding. It's really getting a bad rap for basically cluster fucking any city/country it's hosted in.

Rio, 2016 - Remember, this was one of the most controversial constructions. Rio is broke AF, Corrupt and the country basically fucked over it's citizens by kicking them out of land they've lived on for their entire lives to make room for this.

It's already a wasteland in less than 2 years.

At least Atlanta, GA incorporated the venues into school campuses and actual stadiums that are actively used to this day. Most other countries just throw up some gates and fences and try to forget about it.

The sad thing is that each of these cities fought tooth and nail to get the title of “Olympic city” in hopes that receiving its worldwide recognition, its tourist bucks, and its resulting money would help be that one boost that could propel the city, and even the country, into relevance and economic prosperity.

Alas, the exact opposite almost inevitably happens because the city or country never thought out how they would plan out the Olympics to be successful given the budget and time that they have. In the case of Brazil, they were both too poor to be able to take on the task of one-upping the prior games, and they had other affairs that need to be dealt with. In this case, the Olympics don't go well and they end up attracting negative attention to the country due to shoddy maintenance of the games themselves, while also magnifying their own local issues, crime problems, and/or human rights violations. Once the glamor of the competition goes away, they realize that the buzz and wonder surrounding the city is temporary and only associated with the passing fad of the Olympics themselves instead of the city. As a result, they have extremely expensive venues and projects that they never planned to use in the future, so they deteriorate. What does linger is the negative press surrounding Brazil's incompetence in the Olympics.

Even in first world countries, they seldom plan out the future of the venues after the project or of what to do with the lack of money resulting from the expenditures, as in the case of Montreal. The Olympics is really just a white elephant that no intelligent director would want to force their city to heave upon its shoulders, just to have it collapse immediately afterward.

I hope Kim shoots a missile at the Olympic parks before they open, that'll take care of people wanting to have any more.

I don't even know why the Olympics is even a thing. What country wants to bankrupt itself on purpose and have useless buildings? What is the actual incentive? Do the people personally pocket millions? That's the only thing I can see being the draw.

I haven't cared about the Olympics since I was a little kid. And even then I didn't care that much. I think that it's pretty irrelevant for most young people these days unless they are really into the sports.

Building the facilities necessary is a huge waste of resources that could go towards actually approving the lives of locals. Then you end up with all these useless buildings and an insane amount of cleanup. They'd be better off choosing one permanent location each for summer and winter Olympics.

Oh yeah there's lots of money involved. Back when Obama went and shilled for Chicago, a bunch of his donors had bought the land the stadiums and village were going to be built on. They were going to get serious money selling it to the Olympics. They lost a bunch of money when Chicago was turned down.

Montreal Olympic Stadium that went way over budget has only been used off and on was opened it up to put Haitian refugees fleeing Trump’s death squads and right into the welcoming arms of Canadian Winters. So it’s not all bad I guess.

One of the Russian (summer) olympic weightlifting athletes - female - made a post last night about how annoyed she was at men taking part in women's weightlifting. She pointed out some dude from New Zealand (had to be a Kiwi, right?) who blatantly looks like a guy. I mean, he wasn't even trying. It's as if he decided it was too much like hard work to train to be good enough for the men's competition, so he signed up for the females' instead as a backup. Big fat dude with long hair who looks like a run-of-the-mill computer nerd. Unsurprisingly for women who've spent their whole lives training as hard as possible to git gud, they're pissed off.

The Russian press are even more pissed off at the idea that Russians can still take part in the upcoming Winter Olympics, they just have to do it under a neutral flag.

The fact that Russian athletes are still able to participate but under a neutral flag screams to me that banning Russia for doping is bullshit other wise Russians wouldn't be able to take part at all.

This is all political bullshit and if i was Russia i would boycott the whole thing.

The reason certain Russian athletes (not all) are allowed to participate under a neutral flag is because it's not fair to fuck over all of the Russian athletes that WEREN'T doping.

I find it weird that anyone would criticize that decision, it's the IOC trying to let people who have trained fairly their entire lives participate in the Olympics.

Russia was banned because, as a country, they have supported using performance enhancing drugs by their athletes generally. Individual athletes who have no such history of using performance enhancing drugs should not be and are not banned.
