Rio's looks pretty bad, even worse than Montreal and Seoul, when South Korea last hosted the Olympics. At least London has some plans to make use of their facilities, although not as utilized as Tokyo's, many from the last one in 1964. Also, Beijing has the benefit of the doubt with the 2022 Winter Olympics. It doesn't help matters either that most places the IOC selects to host the Olympics recently have bankrupted their country building the infrastructure, only to abandon it the week after the Closing Ceremonies.
The pictures of wasted space, money, effort and resources in poor countries who could have used that money elsewhere are astounding. It's really getting a bad rap for basically cluster fucking any city/country it's hosted in.
Rio, 2016 - Remember, this was one of the most controversial constructions. Rio is broke AF, Corrupt and the country basically fucked over it's citizens by kicking them out of land they've lived on for their entire lives to make room for this.
It's already a wasteland in less than 2 years.

At least Atlanta, GA incorporated the venues into school campuses and actual stadiums that are actively used to this day. Most other countries just throw up some gates and fences and try to forget about it.
I imagine Pyeongchang will become a wasteland like Sochi. Despite major cities often being far away from ideal locations for winter sports, it's better to reuse existing venues from past games, and focus building infrastructure like transportation, which could stimulate the remote areas in the future.
