I think the concern is more over the fact that the United States justice system appears to be targeting some faggot for posting someone else's autistic political screed on a shitposting forum. The compromise was bad from a privacy and security perspective, but this is bad because the government is COMING FOR OUR WAY OF LIFE MAN!

FWIW, I do think this is more likely to be about something much more innocuous like verifying the provenance of evidence, figuring out where the manifesto first appeared, or investigating financial ties to the actual terrorist or something of that nature. Isn't that supposed to be with the media overblowing the impact of these shootings for everyone vulnerable to manipulation to start feeling scared and paranoid, and then giving the shooters the attention they crave? How will memory-holing primary sources of information, that experts and other people who do not fall to bullshit easily can read and make up their minds and then start creating possible countermeasures, will be stopping other shootings from happening?

In turn, shooters will get the notion that their actions really matter in creating discord in people's hearts, and then slowly but surely that becomes reality, all while media and the government are allowed to reinforce their narratives, so they keep getting their ratings and to "protect the people", respectively.

They want to have it both ways. Restrict the flow of shooter info so their infamy can be crafted exclusively for the vilification of whatever political extreme you can pin them to, while preventing any underground fame from developing.

It could be working at cross purposes, the media wants to craft a narrative and get ratings while governments just want their country to look nice and safe so more tourists and investors go there. Governments can't go after the media without looking tyrannical in the West, so they hit the next best target to feel like they're doing something. you cant memory hole actual happenings like that
you can do it if you catch the guy before he actually shoots anyone, but once the damage is done you can't cover it up. news spreads like wildfire through word of mouth, trying to enact a media blackout on a major shooting will just make the participating media look real fucking shady and bad

in the pre internet era this would have been a viable option. if you block the local city newspapers and radio stations from reporting on something and also keep it off the national media then only the people directly involved with the shooting (victims, bystanders) and their friends+family will know about it. sure it would still spread a bit, but only to a few thousand or tens of thousands of people, not billions like it does with the internet
