This website has been blocked as it contains material related to the Christchurch shooting in March 2019.

The eSafety Commissioner will review the content on a weekly basis to determine whether the Christchurch material remains available. If the content relevant to the block is removed the eSafety Commissioner will advise ISPs to unblock the content.

An administrator of a website may also advise the eSafety Commissioner that they have removed the content relevant to the block. If this advice is received the eSafety Commissioner will verify that the content is no longer available and will notify ISPs to unblock the content.

All website administrators affected by the blocking direction have been consulted by the eSafety Commissioner.

Background

One of the eSafety Commissioner’s functions is to promote online safety for Australians, by protecting Australians from access or exposure to material that promotes, incites, or instructs in terrorist acts or violent crimes.

Under the subsection 581(2A) of the Telecommunications Act 1997 the eSafety Commissioner can give written directions to a carrier or a service provider in connection with performing any of her functions or exercising any of her powers.

The eSafety Commissioner is satisfied that the Christchurch material is material that promotes, incites or instructs in, terrorist acts or violent crimes, from which Australians should be protected from access or exposure to.

Accordingly, on 6 September 2019 the eSafety Commissioner gave the Telecommunications (Protecting Australians from Terrorist or Violent Criminal Material) Direction (No. 1) 2019 (the Direction).

The Direction which came into effect on 10 September 2019 directs relevant service providers to block access to websites from which the eSafety Commissioner is aware Christchurch material is accessible.

Whoa whoa whoa, hold up here. "Promotes, incites, or instructs in"? Did I miss another meeting or something? If so, it sounds like it would have been rad to attend.
