To be fair, I can see how an aspiring terrorist might watch the video, note that the shooter went utterly unopposed by any form of law enforcement for more than half an hour, and decide to go through with it. I can see how he'd be encouraged by the video showing that Australian emergency response is so slow that I can only assume they were all making pot pies at the time and wanted to finish before heading out. And I can absolutely understand how the video and subsequent backlash would make this high-score-contender relieved that, in the aftermath of such an attack, the government would be far more concerned about censoring records of the assault than doing literally anything to stop the spread of his ideology.

If there was a video of MY complete and utter incompetence getting literally dozens of people killed, I'd want it hidden from the public eye, too.

Like how you right there were able to give that same info in three sentences? The video's not even needed for that.

That explains why NZ has banned the video. It doesn't explain why Australia is banning websites which host it. The only connection we have to the shooting at all is that the shooter is an Australian citizen.

The USA has a lot of cops because it has a lot of criminals to deal with. The PRC probably has fewer criminals per capita so they don't need as many cops to deal with them.

The USSR did have a very large number of criminals, especially towards the end, but anecdotally there isn't much serious street crime in most cities in the PRC. I wouldn't trust their government issued statistics though.

Obviously not, because most people don't do that anywhere on Earth. However I do know someone who isn't Chinese who lives in Shanghai and has travelled to several other cities across the country. None of them ever seemed particularly dangerous from a street crime perspective, though there was a lot of corruption. In Argentina he got mugged 6 times in a few years, in China never once. He did, however, see a man die in a traffic accident; the roads can be pretty dangerous there.

I don't trust the government statistics so I can't put exact numbers on it.
