The reinterpretation of what words mean has played a large part of how things are perceived, and over generations can cause once fact filled documents to be filled with what many would consider the most flagrant of lies.

When these documents are used to shape the modern interpretations of past events it is shockingly uncommon (not to mention difficult!) to understand the words as the one who was using them had thought of them in their own mind. Sometimes words change slightly... sometimes their definitions take a complete 180. Etymologies can be fascinating, words mean things and mostly exist as they do for a reason. When they change in such dramatic ways it usually leads to some fascinating history.

I haven't really thought about the changing language aspects. The first (and funniest) example that comes to mind is how 'retard' was an actual medical term and not an insult, and has now gone from insult to some kind of off limits word in public spaces
