Although their home isn't worth a lot they do take lots of nice vacations. In the one photo they are wearing Halifax Hop On Hop Off stickers which is a city tour geared towards cruise ship passengers in Halifax NS Canada. Another family photo is taken at The Grand Floridian Hotel in Disney World. I didn't research that, I just know because it is an iconic Disney goer Christmas photo. Of course that doesn't mean they stayed their, but I bet they did. December rates at the Grand Floridian range from $600-1200 a night for a regular room. Knowing Disney and them, I would bet that they were/are Disney Vacation Club owners. It isn't cheap to be a regular visitor to the most magical place on earth.

In my experience, many responsible people prefer to live in a more modest home if it means they have discretionary income to travel, eat out and generally enjoy life. I think the McCandless' had multiple nice family vacations every year.

I'm not a lawyer so don't take my word as gospel, but I'm reading that general entity description the complete opposite way you did, i.e they're not a religious or non profit.

A - General - Type General refers to a legal entity with no special attributes such as non profit or religious.
To me it sounds like the latter half of that sentence is them listing out certain example special attributes such non profit or religious, as examples of what a general entity isn't, as opposed to them saying that non profit or religious organizations would fall into the category of general entities. If my interpretation is correct, the company is likely just there on paper so as to avoid putting Nick's or whoever's name on absolutely everything (which he's done an awful job so far given how quickly the thread's going).
