What about guns that fire without a trigger pull?
Taurus firearms are not guns, they're suicide implements that frequently miss the user, but given enough time, will eventually do the job.

How can that be? When the nazis invented it they called it the sturmgewehr!
If you want to muddy the waters even more, when they were developing the Stg-44 they called it an "MP44" for "machine pistol" because due to late-war economic conditions, the Nazi bureaucracy had made it verboten to devote resources develop any new experimental "machine guns" , so they essentially just lied so that anyone looking at the books would see, on paper, that this wasn't a machine gun, it was an automatic pistol. We can play these semantic games all day long which is why most modern laws attempting to ban "assault weapons" are such a shitshow. Like when someone says we need a ban on "magazines holding multiple rounds" Hello? you just described EVERY magazine in the world.... that's the POINT of them. Are you that stupid? Or are you attepting to backdoor the 2A by playing word games? Honestly, I can't tell. It's like saying "vehicles with multiple wheels", that covers everything on the road out there right now except a unicycle.

When California banned the TEC-9 by name, Intratec got around it by, ready for this? Changing the name..... that's it, the ban never addressed anything that made up the gun, just it's name.....

THey keep trying to find something "Magic" that those scary guns do that no other gun does and ban that one thing, but, at their core, since the AR pattern sporting rifle family and all derivatives only fire in semiauto, they are mechanically indistinguishable in function from any other semiauto self-cycling weapon. They can't be separated from other long-established arms civilians have held for a century or more at this point by anything, but it's fun to see them try....

The best part is their primary victims tend to be idiots (and Brazilians but I repeat myself)

"These words on this paper will surely stop those evil gun-havers."

Why? Is it bulletproof paper?

First it starts with fully automatic weapons. Then it's shit they call fully semi-automatic weapons. Then auto loading handguns. Then bolt/lever action rifles. Then revolvers.

And finally, after all that, they'll come after single shot black powder firearms.

(Hell, that already happened in New Jersey. Guy got arrested for having a recently purchased antique flintlock pistol. The local DA wanted to send it to the lab and see if they could match up rifling or whatever and see if it wasn't used in a crime or some idiocy.)

Do the words "Shall not be infringed" and "From my cold dead hands" mean anything to Kamala Harris?

I'd expect this brazen idiocy from jobbers like Corey Booker and Beto, but it is at least a little jarring to hear this from one of the candidates who actually stands a chance of getting the Democratic Party's nomination in the primaries.

It's like they're not even trying to win in 2020 at this point.

All those neon-haired Millennial champagne socialists out in the coastal cities aren't enough to carry a national election and we've gotten to a point where even the dyed-in-the-wool old-school moderates like Joe "The Wilmington Pervert" Biden and establishment liberals like Kamala Harris are making crass statements that seem eerily tailor-made to piss off moderates, centrists, or even liberals who aren't sufficiently woke.

If the Democrats keep pushing stuff like this on the campaign trail after the primaries, they are imperially fucked beyond a shadow of a doubt. Even liberal Democrats in rural districts know you don't lean too hard on anti-gun rhetoric, at least not to this extreme.

Even if you try to play up all the woo about crime and mass shootings, this kind of rhetoric is toxic for any candidate in both of the major parties. These elites aren't even trying to fathom the situation for people who don't live in some urban Anarcho-Tyranny along the coasts. Rural communities and poor communities in general tend to support firearms for civilian use for several valid reasons.

I'm not even going to talk about self-defense or any "Red Dawn" scenario either since there are other reasons for owning a gun that come into play specifically for rural Americans or people who work in certain occupations outside of the city.

I highly doubt that the ranchers in Montana and farmers in Oklahoma can effectively defend their livestock from getting preyed on by wild animals without firearms.

A rifle or a shotgun is far more effective at warding off coyotes and bears than bike locks and milkshakes would ever be, but I'm not sure if your average Millennial troon in Portland knows this.

Well said. I have a serious question for the politicians who are actually saying this shit.

Do you even want to be in office? I'm really asking.

For those of you wondering about the New Jersey man, here are three articles detailing what happened.

Seriously, ballistic testing on a smooth bore C&R flintlock from the mid 18th century...

He just shitposted about how "Gun owners deserve drone strikes" or some dumbass bullshit like that. People who think that "the government can just drop a nuke on rebelling territories" are twice as exceptional. Because everyone knows that using tactical nukes on your own people, just because somebody, somewhere, is rebelling, will make you very popular with them.

Same mentality though, but to varying degrees.

You'd probably get more guns if the buyback was voluntary. Then it's a choice and people won't keep their guns out of spite

just so people are on the same page, "assault weapon" is an invented term by Josh Sugarmann of the Violence Policy Center purpose-made to confuse the public into conflating "assault rifles" (which are generally selective-fire intermediate caliber firearms) with sporting rifles of similar appearance, regardless of mechanical design.

this term was coined in 1989 after the Cleveland Elementary School shooting in California, which prompted California to introduce state-level gun control en masse for most modern weapons with the introduction of the Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989. (gun control in California started in 1917 and largely became common with the 1924 DROS system of reporting gun sales to the state and the restriction of concealed carry). "assault weapon" as a legal term was first used in this context.

even under those laws, the popular belief that "assault weapon" laws have active effect on their intended targets (by perception things like machineguns) was minimal as machineguns are legally not firearms - they are literally "machineguns" and governed by completely separate sets of laws that regulate them.

Assault Weapons and Accessories in America by Josh Sugarmann, 1988 (first mention to the public, prior to Mr. Sugarmann's appointment as executive of the Violence Policy Center.

Mr Sugarmann is also a Type 01 (Dealer) of firearms and has openly stated a goal of the complete removal of common handguns as well as his ill-defined assault weapons from the US public.

edit: for clarity and disclosure, i am a Type 07/SOT 2 (manufacturer and dealer of firearms other than destructive devices), a Type 03 (Collector), a Type 01/SOT 3 (Dealer of most kinds of firearms), and maintain a variety of other certificates and licenses at both the federal and state level for myself and my business(es). I also do limited import/export of ammunition via the State Department.

Off-topic gunsperging, but Taurus are actually getting their act together these days, at lest for the stuff that comes into (and, increasingly, is made in) this country. I can't speak to whatever stays back in Brazil, but Taurus is starting to reclaim it's reputation to some extent. They're still inexpensive, lower-end firearms, but they're not so much the suicide machines they used to be back in the Taurus Millennium days.

I've actually toyed with the idea of picking up one of those 92 knockoffs they are doing right now. They're supposed to be 100% parts-compatible with the real thing.
