I was going to check to see if he was bitching about low contributions in the begathon and was greeted with being blocked. So I think he's got it backwards; short term he can squeeze the whales for their oil and they'll gladly fork over all the hard cash they can for the immediate future but long term he's in for a bumpy road when his water-headed fans gradually realize they can't keep it up forever. Since they can no longer toss him that weird pseudo-currency on Twitch this "business model" is a metaphorical leaky boat and all he's got is a thimble to start shoveling the water out as he slowly sinks.

He is incapable or unwilling to plan long-term for anything, ever, so if we're all still around then the next 10-20 years are gonna be highly entertaining.

So question: didn’t Phil get a ban for like 3-4 days for referring to his streams as fundraisers before? Or did that have something to do with bits? I forget which it was but he had always been careful not to call his shit a fundraiser, no?

edit: Here’s the thread, it’s from 2018 and it was a 24 hr ban. also iirc (it’s a long thread) the cause was just speculation? I’ll read more in depth as the day goes on.

It was bit related, fundraisers are fine on Twitch/pretty common events, with people even having progress words that directly have the word "fundraiser" on screen. IIRC, Phil just didn't understand the ban, or was purposefully misleading about it for some reason.

Twitch takes the bit thing pretty seriously. Not lifetime ban serious or anything, but they'll keep slapping at your wrist if you use the wrong combination of words that imply it is currency. It has to be very specific, something along the lines of "I am using bits to pay my bills." This implies bits themselves are a real world currency, versus "I can pay my bills with the money I've gotten from bits." They have to make the very specific distinction for legal reasons, since currency laws are a thing.

I don't know exactly what Phil said, but given the way he generally stumbles over words, it's not exactly a surprise he messed it up. And given his inability/unwillingness to understand basic things, he probably fumbled the actual explanation pretty poorly.

Hey I made a comment about this before, he did this to me a few years ago despite never tweeting directly at him and only liking/retweeting detractor tweets from time to time.

He's been doing this for years, scouring twitter profiles like a vulture to see if they've had any engagement with "dumb idiots" talking crap about him.

Such a busy man Phillip. If you spent as much time about thinking how to manage your on money and finances more instead of binging on twitter all those nights over the years finding big meanie words on the internet that people say about you, then maybe you wouldn't find yourself in such trouble.
