Does Canada have anything like Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales in the US which makes the police more or less immune to lawsuits over their negligance?

You know, everyone gives American police flak for the police brutality and all, but at least they do their damn jobs! I'm not sure what's up with the RCMP, but either it's a lack of funding and training specific to that area or some sort of petty nepotism going on to get a little tin foil here.

This reconstruction of events by the Halifax Examiner shows just how god damn incompetent the RCMP are.

  • At no point in the two-day rampage did the RCMP get in front of the killer

  • Sources within the RCMP say a major problem was that communications between various RCMP units was never co-ordinated. “Everyone was on their own channels,” the source said. “Nothing was synchronized. They could have gone to a single channel and brought in the municipal cops as well, but for some reason they didn’t. It was like no one was in charge.”

  • RCMP narrative changed from Wortman being a clever criminal who planned this out to "there was no evidence he was pre-planning this"

  • The first RCMP officers on scene were hesitant to do anything because of the labour code violation the RCMP were charged with after the 2015 shooting in Moncton, New Brunswick that killed three RCMP officers.

  • Suggestions that the RCMP gave the scene a F.I.D.O. treatment. (Fuck it, drive on, meaning wait for things to calm down before making a move)

  • Some mounties were frustrated with this and wanted to do something (as they had been trained to do) but were threatened with being fired.

  • RCMP did not alert the two municipal police forces on either side of Portapique, in Truro, 20 minutes away, and Amherst, 45 minutes away. This is significant because in both police forces most of the members have tactical training, a necessity in small departments where any officer could find themselves in a difficult incident without much or any notice. Both police forces had considerable numbers of officers primed and ready to go.

  • By 1AM RCMP knew that Wortman had a replica police cruiser.

  • At 1:07 a.m., therefore, the RCMP clearly knew the identity of the suspect and that he had killed many people. The RCMP was not sure about how many because the fires were still raging. Yet the RCMP advised police departments outside the scene to look for this incredibly dangerous person but did not themselves or ask anyone to put up roadblocks and lock down the area. Most importantly, in its tweets the RCMP fudged the markings on the car. The local man who was shot by GW told them it was a police car. The RCMP described it as a former police car with a Canada decal on it.

  • Informed sources close to the investigation say it was around this time that that an Amherst Police officer was told that the RCMP did not need that force’s assistance because the Mounties had deemed the situation to be a murder-suicide and that the shooter was dead. Amherst Police Chief Dwayne Pike denied in an interview that such a conversation took place. When told about the chief’s denial, the original source persisted in his claim. “Municipal forces like Amherst depend upon the RCMP for lab services,” the source said. “They don’t want to say anything to piss off the Mounties because they will cut them off from the labs. That would cost the locals a lot of money. The RCMP plays rough and the local forces know it, so they keep their mouths shut.”

  • Around 10:30 a.m., two Mounties emerged from a black Hyundai Elantra and started firing toward an emergency services worker outside the Onslow Belmont Fire Brigade Fire Hall. The Mounties shot up the fire hall and just missed hitting people inside while causing considerable damage to equipment. One of the Mounties went into the fire hall for a moment and then the two left in the Hyundai.
I mean I know the Broward County Sheriff fucked up big time in Florida and Wortman was a bit of a curveball compared to the average mass shooter but this is fractally bad levels of fucking up in comparison.
Several RCMP and law enforcement sources say that a corporal from a nearby detachment who was the initial supervisor on the scene froze in place to the distress of other Mounties. The corporal later ran into nearby woods and turned off their flashlight and hid. That officer continues to be off work on stress leave
Jesus fucking christ, and Trudeau used this absolute shitshow to ban guns. I'd be livid if I were Canadian.

This is absolutely wrong, though. The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled several times that the Police have no responsibility to protect any individual. Their job is simply to maintain social order within society.

Gee, it's almost like it's a bad idea to politicize the judicial branch of the government.

The fact that I hear more about fucking Florida and it's WuFlu cases in the Canadian media over this is frustrating beyond belief.
Canada should really just be renamed America Jr. by this point. Hell Nova Scotia is literally a mix between the rural US states and Florida (with a hint of Japan in terms of its overall geographical shape, but that's besides the point) in a relationship with Boston.

There's a theory out there that the RCMP (because Trudeau returned their ability to ban guns by reclassifying them as "prohibited" that the Conservatives took away, because "hurr durr the RCMP have guns, therefore they are experts on guns, while elected officials don't know shit about guns" but the Elected officials are accountable, the RCMP are NOT) actually paid this wortman guy to commit the shootings with over 400 grand in Canadian money and maybe they faked his death so he's out living the good life in some form of protected custody or tropical paradise.

Some court documents were unsealed, what we learned included:

  • Wortman had false walls in his bathroom and garage, and other hiding spots on his properties in Portapique and Dartmouth.
  • Someone who had known Wortman for almost a decade said that he was a sex predator who provided people in the Portapique/Economy area with drugs
  • This person also claimed that Wortman smuggled these drugs from Maine/New Brunswick and had a gun stockpile.
  • These drugs included OxyContin and Dilaudid.
  • Wortman stored a high powered rifle under a workbench in his garage

Warrant alleges N.S. mass shooter was seasoned smuggler of narcotics, U.S. guns
HALIFAX — Newly released court documents say witnesses told the RCMP that the gunman who carried out the April mass shooting in Nova Scotia smuggled drugs and guns from Maine for years and had secret compartments inside several of his properties.

HALIFAX — Newly released court documents say witnesses told the RCMP that the gunman who carried out the April mass shooting in Nova Scotia smuggled drugs and guns from Maine for years and had secret compartments inside several of his properties.

The gunman took 22 lives during his April 18-19 shooting and burning rampage before police killed him at a service station in Enfield, N.S.

Previously blacked-out details from police applications for search warrants, unsealed by a judge on Monday, quote a witness telling investigators that Gabriel Wortman smuggled drugs from Maine and had a bag of 10,000 OxyContin and 15,000 Dilaudid "from a reservation in New Brunswick."
Another witness told police that neighbours spoke of concealed spaces on Wortman's properties in Portapique, N.S., and in Dartmouth, N.S.

That included a "secret room" in his Dartmouth denturist clinic, a false wall at his property on Portland Street in Dartmouth and "secret hiding spots" at his warehouse property in Portapique.
In addition, one of the witnesses told a Halifax police officer he'd heard that Wortman "builds fires and burns bodies" and was a sexual predator as well as a drug dealer.

The warrants say police were looking for firearms, ammunition, explosives, chemicals, surveillance systems, computers, electronic devices, police-related clothing, human remains and "documents related to planning mass murder events'' and the acquisition of weapons.

Investigators obtained warrants to search properties owned by the killer — three of them in the northern Nova Scotia village of Portapique, where the 51-year-old started his murderous rampage.

The documents released Monday were unsealed after a media consortium, including The Canadian Press, went to court.

Previously released documents have detailed warning signals of paranoid behaviour and unusual purchases of gasoline by the gunman before his killings.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 27, 2020.

Can you thumbnail that shit please?
Done, apologies. The other half was bugging me to leave. A lot of repetition in the appendix I just noted.

And yes, when I was a teen in early 80s, Dilaudid was being sold for $40 CDN a pill. I don't know what the value is these days, but even if half that, it is still 300K just for those.

I haven't seen a K8 in years but they were 20-30USD the last time I had some, They are a pretty old school pill that you rarely can find on the dark web or in town, if you can even find pain meds of that quality anymore locally it's normally OxyMorph(Opana) instead of Hydromorph(Dilaudid)

I may be getting my pills mixed up, but at least in NS, it ranges between $50-$80. A big payday for Wortman at any rate.
Wow, it went up! Yeah, there is a lot more to this guy than meets the eye. Its going to be interesting to see if the Liberals cave and call the PI. People aren't going to buy in to what will be akin to the Warren Report with this "review" they are calling for. Be interesting to see if public pressure forces them to change it to a full blown inquiry. When the NSHCC stuff was happening in early 2010s MacNeil, who was not Premier at the time, was vehement that there should be a PI into the abuses at the Home. It helped get him elected and of course contributed to the NDP/Dexter's one term in power. So, now he is leader and is opposed to a PI. Something about this whole mass shooting deal is beginning to give off a real odour.

I am not into the heavy drug scene like I was in the 80s (getting old tends to do that!) so I always assumed with the changing of the times, smack addicts and needles were kind of a thing of the past. But Dialudid, Mandrax and Valium were the pills of choice for the older junkies I knew. Watching them mainline was always a trip though! Most of the junkies were in their late teens and early 20s when I was 14 or so and started getting into the dope. But me and my friends were just dropping acid and maybe doing black beauties to stay up all weekend. But those older guys and girls were hardcore junkies. They used to shoplift meat and electronics and then go to the dealer and trade their hauls for pills. An ex-sister-in-law also was selling dope and I remember the $40 for the D. We didn't have that kind of cash in early teens, so we'd get a bag of ten speed pills, usually BBs, for like $5 a bag. That was a cheap weekend high along with a $5 dose of purple microdot or blue star acid. Plus we didn't fucking nod off for 30 minutes! LOL

I don't know that they will call an inquiry. The Liberals still have high support in the opinion polls, and we know how god damn stubborn Steven MacNeil is.

I never partook in the drug scene when I went to school there, but I knew people who did. Encountered some interesting fellows around downtown and North End.
