  12. First off, I blame @Flexo for this. Was he around?

    Secondly, oddly enough, bear sprays are actually weaker than pepper spray (presumably because bears have a more sensitive sense of smell than humans do). According to Wikipedia the capsaicin ingredient in bear spray is 1-2% concentration, whereas most self-defense sprays run as high as 20%.

    Speaking from a more practical perspective, though, unless you're dealing with one of the less aggressive breeds (black/brown), bear spray's kind of a weak response. After all, no 'deterrent' is 100 percent effective, and I seriously question if one of these sprays would discourage a hacked-off grizzly bear. A pistol chambered for large-caliber rounds and a watchful eye might be better solutions.

  13. My tried and true solution to bear attacks is to only walk around in the woods with a dead-man's-switch and a suicide package of explosives. I haven't been mauled to death once.
