it would be cool if we have people on the outside advocating for me while I am in the hospital. As wonderful as GRS Surgery is happening for me tomorrow morning , We do live in an authoritarian shithole and as both an anarchist and a transgender woman - I am vulnerable to both political repression and institutional oppression

I am directly asking outside people to contact the hospital to inquire frequently of my status

This is a serious request. The last time I was in a hospital longer than 72 hours, the state tried to kidnap and disappear me based on my mental health - that was 5 years ago April. And, case in point, I do not trust cis people so there, I am requesting solidarity of the advocacy kind from outside - think of it as jail support without...jail.

Make sure I am safe and survived the surgery, being treated fairly, and above all not disappeared into the custody of nefarious state actors.

The only time I ever call hospitals is when I have a room number or the number of a specific room. A hospital isn't going to give any info on a patient unless I am grossly mistaken about HIPAA. I wouldn't think they'd even give in surgery/out of surgery/etc type information out on the phone. Phil should just give everyone his room number and/or phone number during his recovery like a normal person. Or have his live in ogre who is surely coming along to support him relay the information to Phil's many loving and totally worried friends.

Is he setting himself up to fake a kidnapping? I know wild theories of how he's going to get out of this have been thrown around.

I'm going to guess that he is going to say we called the hospital and made threats or the like so his surgery was cancelled. No one who actually believes that they have stalkers would post that info.

Dunno how it is where you live, but where I live you have to be a be a credible risk of harm to yourself or others to get locked up around me. The burden of proof is specific pertaining to what a risk is. Telling people you just bought a gun and you're going to kill yourself/someone else is going to get the law involved whether you like it or not.

lol so, a couple quick things:

1. it's only a HIPAA violation if the person being asked about is a patient. If they're not a patient it doesn't matter if hospital staff "slips up" or not because you can't tell medical information on someone who's not your patient.
2. Since Phil is going to find a reason to cancel his imaginary surgery, now's as good a time as ever to drop the fact I have a contact on Dr. Dugi's staff. I've known them for over a decade through a previous job, even before I knew about lolcows or kiwis or even Phil. Since it's not a HIPAA violation to give information on someone who isn't your patient, I was told emphatically, "This is a fictional scheduled surgery, there is nothing on the books for Friday."

So there you go. I hope Phil has fun playing pretend!
