It's not really that obscure. Al-Nakba is pretty well known amongst Palestinians and the Arab community in general, and to some degree in Iran as well, though Youm al-Nakba is actually commemorated on the 15th. My guess would be that Phil picked it up from just about any pro-Palestine group. The term is not obscure at all.
