Can I mention that Phil said he's willing to risk being arrested and put in jail? I can't be the only one who thinks that would be ridiculous on so many levels. I mean, we all know the Philtato is going into a men's jail. I can only imagine what his experience would be like.

He could get one of his many police friends to help him out i'm sure.....

Also Phil not even the NSA would want your information.

Yeah, why would anyone want a cure for a mental disorder that makes them bounce up and down squeaking, soil themselves, and draw shitty maps instead of interacting with other human beings?

See, now, that's where things get interesting. Why indeed?

Ok, a while back I mentioned the possibility that Phil has Borderline Personality Disorder. I think his feelings towards Autism Speaks is another manifestation of one of the symptoms of BPD: Splitting, or thinking in extremes. In Phil's little mind, he sees organizations as either accepting autistic people completely and unconditionally or as being hateful towards autistics under all circumstances. He doesn't understand things like nuance, and Phil simply can't seem to understand the concept of an orgainzation that says "Ok, we support autistic people, but autism is still a disability and we need to do something to help people with it." Heck, I think he originally got pissed at Dusty because Dusty told him he needs to learn to live with his autism because that was somehow ableist against him.

To be fair, I've actually heard some good anti-autism cure arguments.
One, for example, is that there is no cure. Much like how you can't "cure" depression or any mental disorder, you can't "cure" autism. There is no treatment that would cure you of it. So putting money into a cure is just wasteful. What some argue is that you should, instead, spend money on awareness and healthcare. Instead of charging hundreds for the pills/drugs that would help that person handle and manage their illness, you'd be able to make it affordable.

But that's just one argument and I'm not personally sure how well it would hold up against a real debate. And, of course, that's not the argument Phil is making. He's literally doing this shit for attention and nothing else. If there was a cure for autism, he would have no excuse for why he's Phil.

This is one of the few points where I agree with Phil. Finding a "cure" for autism is a quixotic fool's errand.

Instead, they should be trying to find a cure for Phil.
If we want to cure Phil, we should have a donation drive to get him a large gun that he can't possibly conceal and then let nature take its course.

The problem is the anti Autism Speaks debate always centers around high functioning autsists, and conveniently ignores the fact there are people for whom autism is a truly crippling illness. The kind who go into a full blown panic attack if the walls change color from the light adjusting, or who despite every attempt by competant care providers still have a 2nd grade reading level at 20. But fuck those people, the Autism Speaks people hurt my feelings!

I imagine there could be a cure for autism, but much like AIDS you'd have to administer it while in the womb and adult people who already have it are fucked.

Autism Speaks is a very flawed organization and several of the things they've done over the years are questionable at best, but seeking a cure for 'tismo isn't one of them.
