Supposedly, "great" American interrogators can get a false confession out of almost anyone by ramping up the stress to the point of delirium where the subject will say anything to make it stop. While I find it hard to fathom that someone could make me confess to a murder, or even doxing someone, there have been studies on the phenomenon where test subject try to give the answers the experimenters want and they are able to get all sorts of outlandish lies as a result. I think that’s because they get you to believe that if you admit to the crime, the punishment will be less severe. People who have given false confessions have later said that they were told that they would be found guilty either way and convicted, but a confession in advance would make things easier and they could get a greatly reduced sentence.
