Personally I think I'm gonna sit this one out. Partly because I didn't actually see most of the nominees this year, but mostly because I'm just kind of sick of the Academy. Last year was fucking embarrassing, with the show being interrupted every ten minutes so some erudite Hollywood twerp could come up and throw themselves on a sword for how racist we all are. This year can only be worse as winner after winner try one-upping Meryl Streep for who can talk down to non-Californians the most.

I don't watch the Academy Awards, partly because I only ever see animated movies these days and non-Disney films have (usually) been treated like crap by the Academy, and partly because I'm not interested in the ceremony itself. Then there's the virtue signaling shit they've been pulling these last several years that makes it nothing more than a circlejerk for celebrities and paparazzi. Not that other award shows don't have the same problems, the Academy is just full of it.

The only awards I had looked forward to this year was the Razzie's, which was announced just recently.

I have a personal theory Disney had a big hand in making sure Spirited Away won that year after throwing Lilo and Stitch (and Treasure Planet, forgot it was released in 2002) under the bus. Which is weird if they did, because The Wind Rises was up against Frozen, and it was pretty much advertised as Miyazaki's "last", but they screwed it over for Frozen (at least it had won "Best Screenplay").

Mel Gibson wins best director for Hacksaw Ridge then uses the opportunity to accuse Americans of bigotry, while the other Hollywood morons suddenly develop an immunity to irony as they nod and clap.

Lots of shaken and crien Irl about Trump.

Just like every year African Americans will win 20+% of the awards despite being 13% of the population but it still won't stop morons from complaining and spamming #Oscarstoowhite2017.

Tyler Perry will be unironically praised while Americans of all races scratch their heads in confusion.
