He really wants to be able to do that shit, and he'll believe it's possible as long as no one can prove, to Chris, that it's impossible. It's akin to "fake it 'til you make it." He takes any stimulus that could possibly affirm his desire and ignores any other explanation. It's a lapse in critical thinking more than an indication of psychosis.

It's similar to people crediting GodJesus when they overcome a medical condition. You can tell them how the treatment worked, but you can't prove that the outcome wasn't determined by GodJesus. You can tell Chris that a breeze moved the paper he's been staring at for hours, but you can't prove that Chris didn't move the paper with his mind.
