ABBATH Plays Disastrous Two-Song Concert In Buenos Aires; Fans Request Refund

ABBATH played a disastrous two-song concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday (November 13), resulting in some fans requesting a refund.

According to report on the local metal site El Culto, the doors to Club Palermo opened two hours later than scheduled, forcing support acts DESCARNADO and MEDIUM to play heavily abbreviated sets. When ABBATH finally took the stage, the group consisted only of its visibily inebriated namesake frontman (real name Olve Eikemo) alongside bassist Mia Wallace and drummer Ukri "Uge" Suvilehto. Rumors had spread earlier in the day that Abbath had gotten into an argument with guitarist Ole André Farstad, who reportedly decided to stay at the hotel and skip the gig.

ABBATH reportedly tried to open the concert with "Count The Dead" at least twice, only for the frontman to drop his guitar on the ground after 10 seconds and throw himself into the crowd. They then tried to perform a "very poor version" of the song "Tyrants" by Abbath's former band IMMORTAL, before Abbath left the stage and was taken to the dressing room, from which he did not re-emerge to finish the set.

The fans' anger quickly flooded social media, with many of them asking for the return of their money.

ABBATH was scheduled to perform tonight (Thursday, November 14) at El Sótano Pub in Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut, Argentina, but that show was canceled by the promoter earlier today. The band later announced it was scrapping the remaining dates on its South American tour "due to health issues that need to be treated."

ABBATH was touring South America in support of its second album, "Outstrider", which was released in July via Season Of Mist.

"Outstrider" marks ABBATH's second release since the frontman's exit from IMMORTAL. The highly publicized legal battle in 2014 over the rights to the IMMORTAL name pitted Abbath against co-founder Demonaz (real name: Harald Nævdal) and drummer Horgh (real name: Reidar Horghagen), with Abbath claiming the pair abandoned IMMORTAL after they moved their gear out of the band's rehearsal space. The Norwegian court systems determined otherwise, and awarded the IMMORTAL name to Demonaz.

What a shitshow lmao but kinda sad to see him in this state.

Some sources claim he drank lots of really cheap wine. And yeah... I know that brand.

Which brand of wine does Abbath prefer? This seems important, especially if its Argentine. Chubut is in the middle of nowhere.
Makes you appreciate just how rare true professionals like Bon Jovi or Bruce Springsteen are in the music scene. I suppose it goes with the territory. It's no wonder act managers get paid so much considering much of their job is tard wrangling people like this.
I've seen and chatted with plenty of metal musicians on the level of fame of Abbath, but Abbath seems to have fucked up here. I saw Primal Fear (best Judas Priest clone ever) a while back and while they were cool to talk with when they played one of their guys (it's been a while, can't recall if it was their bassist of one of their guitarists) you had him chugging a handle of something (although it was probably just water, but there's shows I've seen with musicians chugging beer or who knows what), yet he could still play his ass off. And Hansi Kursch from Blind Guardian brilliantly deflected some retarded joke I shouted at him when I was drunk off my ass at that show.

Really, I'd be pissed if I saw a guy as legendary as Abbath and he was too drunk to play. Just do what Iron Maiden does, they act like they're all crazy and free-spirited yet have a serious regimen. Iron Maiden is an insanely successful brand which impresses everyone and Abbath can do the same. Classic Immortal is fun but is memeworthy so might as well market yourself based on that.

Immortal and Abbath were jokers of BM.

Except they acually had some good songs and taking the piss out of BM aeshetics whilst still buying into it is not such a bad thing. Abbath has many (varying degrees of amusing) interviews over on youtube because normally he can do the touring/drinking thing well. Whatever went wrong here I hope he is OK because although I don't really bother with his music much anymore I do rate him as a guitarist.

This is him doing 'guitar lessons' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WKzrc2wcxA Other people in the series try and teach you stuff, Abbath just shows how he plays. I like it.

It takes a serious calibre of person to not be corrupted by the impulse to treat tours and shows as free vacations instead of a service you're being paid to do. Tales of shitty concerts are some of my favourite reads and the common factor is the artists getting drunk and high out of their fucking minds and not wanting to do the show because they'd rather keep partying.

Not sure which one he prefers, but according to some sources he and the band members were drinking Michel Torino. One of the most cheap and disgusting wines ever. The price varies, but I think it's safe to say that it's a 1,26 USD wine.

Now imagine drinking a couple of bottles of that.

I went with Bon Jovi and Springsteen as my examples because to my knowlege in their long career they've never borked a concert and have treated their back up bands really well. Making sure they get paid appropriate, generally insuring the whole "business" side of thing is done correctly and not make the entire enterprise into a wild ride. Besides raw talent, that seems to be the defining characteristic that makes an act last over decades as opposed to being a flash in the pan like the Beatles. You never heard about the Rolling Stones or Kiss borking concerts either, or letting interpersonal drama get in the way of the show. In the case of the former it wasn't until they were dying of old age that they were forced to stop and the latter is still rocking.

Artists with business skills and self-discipline probably last longer because they're more resilient to drug and alcohol abuse, shitty relationships and being conned by managers and record labels. You could make an argument, though, that newer generations of artists are more lacking in these qualities because the music industry has become better at manipulating them and the nature of celebrity is perpetually becoming more permissive and dangerous.
