Why is it I can only pick male, female, or unspecified? There are an unlimited amount of genders and many people don't fit into the gender binary. We should be able to write in our own genders and freely change them.

Our addition of a customised gender field would be time-consuming (as it would likely require a custom plugin and database change), and constitute an implicit endorsement of a presently unproven concept.

There is not much demand or a need for this. We provide the unspecified option if you decline to select male or female.

No. I get that OP is just fucking with everyone and I do agree that this feature has potential for a punchline, but there's going to be people who don't "get it" and throw a hissy fit about it which in turn will cause problems for the moderators. Tumblr considers all genders "real" genders. Even things that are obviously not genders are genders.
