I remember playing a lot of custom campaign/scenario from aok.heavengames.com

In addition to some good writing here and there, they are fucking amazing at pushing the limit of the Genie engine to make stuff that shouldn't be possible (turning normal unit into regenerating heroes, creating an rng system in a scenario, etc).

Too bad that some of the creator there dissapear midway in making their work

My understanding is the acutal online community is split or something. Between the steam HD remake and voobly. The voobly version (which is also free) is the OG version of the game with more of the original balance and factions some seem to perfer. But the steam version has better overall QoL changes and such.

I was more of a Teuton guy myself. Managed to wreak havoc by stuffing a bunch in a bunch of rams, bulldoze a bunch of buildings, and when they broke, Teutons flooded out and started beating the shit out of any unit walking off.

I was more of a Teuton guy myself. Managed to wreak havoc by stuffing a bunch in a bunch of rams, bulldoze a bunch of buildings, and when they broke, Teutons flooded out and started beating the shit out of any unit walking off.

I'm more of a Goth guy, spam those Infantry like an ass suffering from heavy constipation

i'm not very good at rts games that are heavy on micro-management

my ass would get handed to me in multiplayer if i had proper internet

in nearly every campaign, i either
a) turn the turtle levels to the max and build tons of castles and towers at choke-points while garrisoning as many archers as possible
b) say "fuck that shit" and start spamming "how do you turn this on" in the chat

If I remember correctly Age of Empires wasn't supermicro heavy unless you did some really specific strats with certain races. Mostly it boiled down to quasi Zerg tactics.

Full Zerg if you played as the Huns

I was a huge fan of Age of Empires II back in the day.

I want to play the HD version with all the new civilizations but my computer isn't good enough for that.

My favorite civilizations to play as were the Celts and the Spanish.

• Tyrant_Theviper / TheviperAOC -> best player in the world, competes with other experts while communicating with his chat often taking their suggestions or troll strats to win. Located in Norway, but is often playing late at night / early morning.

I loved playing as the Teutons but I always got my ass handed to me in multiplayer since those knights are slow as hell. People would just kite my troops around and there was nothing I could do, dood.

I love the byzantines too because I find stable-based armies easier to control.

Does anyone know the best way to use the monestary? All my priests end up being murdered before they can convert and I'm out a pile of gold.

I enjoy the games but I don't have the mindset or dedication for multiplayer. Casual games with people who also hardly ever play is pretty fun though.

I played AoE2 quite a lot back in the day but I think overall I preferred the Star Wars game made with the same engine. Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds had fucking Gungans as a playable race and they were glorious.
