I don’t understand why American women get into love live or any other idol anime. In japan, love live fan boys are spat upon, but American girls are getting into it, but for what reason? There’s almost no story besides they wanting to form a idol band to get money for their school. It’s just a cheap shit to bring men into it so that they can buy all the merch they produce each month. If I can draw any guess is that the cutesy moe like style that is so common in idol animes is akin to that of magical girls, and in the West at least magical girls are still very nostalgic for both female and male audiences. When we really think about it there arent that many shoujo or josei material that rises the same interest worldwide as shonen and seinen do, many western women get into shonen and seinen and do what otakus in Japan do (ships, fanfic, etc) although there they have eyecandy to work with.
Then you go with the perspective of shows that have been perceived as mainly backed by men but arent "meant" for them (MLP, Love Live, moe shit) and that people on Tumblr and /co/ have been trying to "take back" those spaces. People like tomatomagica do it by literally taking the material and reporpousing it.

Actually, from some Japanese surveys LoveLive seems to have a rather balanced ratio of male/female fans. Like in charts listing number of Comiket doujins its listed as "both genders" as opposed to your usual fujobait (which is listed as "female") or moeshit (which is listed as "male"). Idolmaster falls into the latter category and is pretty male dominated though.

Well, when you are looking for East European SJW art... It's not as spread like in the West, but still exist. From my experience, those people usually feel like they are better than others because they know English quite well and absorb all the hip western internet stuff. Love slavic folklore stuff, but hate everything else about their "backwater" country.
If you are looking for other examples - Winx club is cult classic in Russia and most older fanartists are from there. Both good and bad.
There was also action #respectfulredesign a few years ago, when russian feminists redraw skimpy clother of girl characters to more "practical" ones - usually characters from girl media (western magical girl shows, sailor Moon, barbie, Bratz) that were in TV in 2000s. Ignoring crop tops were a big trend back then.
