Nobody feels sorry for neo-Nazis who won’t have a place to stay in Charlottesville. But as the reader points out, this is a truly frightening precedent: Companies doing online searches to see if you are politically correct enough to do business with, and banning you not because of anything you did, necessarily, but because of what you believe. Today they’re banning neo-Nazis from using their service. Tomorrow they’ll ban people who travel to a town for a Trump rally. And the day after tomorrow, they’ll ban Southern Baptists.

Will people now start reporting their conservative neighbors to Airbnb? Will Airbnb homeowners start googling those who want to rent from them, and if they don’t like their politics, inform on them to Airbnb to get them blacklisted? Again: where does it stop?

I’ve said it often, and I’ll keep saying it: Social Justice Warriors have no idea at allwhat kinds of demons they are summoning.

A member of what appears to be a South Carolina-based group commented that its members had "taken over all of the large AirBnBs in a particular area" where it would host the "most badass after-after-parties," adding that they had organized "'Nazi Uber' and the 'Hate Van'" for guests. The user urged party-goers to acquire a lapel pin designed in the "distinguishing fash look" that had been "fashioned in the SS font," in apparent reference to the style associated with Nazi Germany.

They aren't exactly wrong that it's pretty damn creepy they're googling these people, but from what I've read, their good point is just that and it seems like a lot of them were basically asking for people to not want them around.

I meant more that AirBnB is googling them themselves, not the people who are hosting. I was just noting that AirBnB has a problem with this across the board, whether its them officially or their hosts. If I was hosting I'd personally google them too.

I can't speak for large cities like I'm assuming they're talking about, but small mom-and-pop motels in urban areas with high summer tourism is also being affected by AirBnB. They're also affecting larger hotels, which of course affects the little guy in the long run. It's funny to see how business insider changed its tune from "they aren't hurting anyone" to "ok maybe they are" within a few months.
