This is especially a problem for older, often disabled and elderly residents living on a fixed income. When their property taxes suddenly go through the roof, these people who were already barely getting by suddenly can't afford to live there any more, nor can they afford to move. They're fucked.

Groups like AirBNB that replace things like motels and hotels, while claiming to be immune from the laws that regulate real hotels, are also harming small family businesses that way.

I remember a couple of years ago they tried to pass some voter initiative that would've regulated AirBnb rentals. Though to be fair the numerous issues in housing costs and gentrification in SF goes far far deeper than some AirBnb rentals.

I was about to say, this literally just happened with a bunch of alt-right furries getting banned for near the exact same thing (buying up all of a hotel's rooms and loling about it afterward.) I'm less inclined to believe this is solely related to politics and more a bunch of spergy children making it clear they will cause nothing but chaos and drama once they get to the hotel.

Also, if the Airbnb ToS states you can't use their services to promote bigotry, then that can be argued to be part of the contract, and the nazis broke the contract by violating the ToS. They could sue Airbnb, but likely wouldn't get far.
