Hans evilness did not come out of nowhere. Hans was a personification of the evil mirror from the original story. The mirror reflected whatever the person liked most to control people, which is exactly what Hans was doing. He reflected Anna's need for affection/love and Elsa's need for her sister and the fear of the cityfolk to manipulate his way to the top. Reflected like a mirror. Ugh.
