I had a thought today (a rare and special event)
But think about it...

Imagine if Majora's Mask failed and ended up being one of those really obscure games almost nobody knows about, like the Pokemon games that came packaged with chicken breasts.
If someone found that cartridge in an attic somewhere, started playing, and posted it on the internet, everyone would be certain that they're making it up for a shitty creepypasta.

I thought it was interesting to think about.

what if spore was just like will right wanted it to be
ftfy. what happened to spore during development was so tragic. I know that the original concept was extremely ambitious and bordering on impossible in its time, but the very least they could have done was have the creature creation function into gameplay in any way other than "herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore?" and "movement speed".

what if paradox didn't sell updates as DLC and instead pushed them to the base game?

I think EU4, HOI4, and games like that would be immensely more popular and acclaimed than they are now. EU4 is great but nobody wants to spend literal hundreds of dollars to have a decent experience.

Then we would get Gary Grigsby's War in the East/West/Pacific, even though they don't deal with poltics and are much more advanced in terms of military strategy even at the operation level. They only have 1-2 DLCs per game. The only downside is that the base game usually cost $80 as opposed to $60.

What if EA never existed

What if bethesda stopped getting lazier and lazier with their games to the point that they literally slapped a $60 price tag on the equivalent of a FO4 overhaul mod and pretended it was a different game

What if 40k was actually mainstream like Star Wars and had it own movies n shit

What if Obsidian had more time with New Vegas and made the game they wanted?
If I'm remembering the developer diaries published by Josh Sawyer and Chris Avellone correctly, if they had been given more time from the onset they would have focused much more on the Legion and it would be a lot closer to a retelling of Van Buren than a sequel to it. I always wonder what New Vegas would have looked like if Black Isle Studios had been allowed to release their Fallout 3 without Bethesda forcing them to shitcan it a month before it was supposed to go to print.

What if Noble Six B-312 survived the events of HALO: Reach?

Granted, there is a divide regarding the canonical status of the events leading up to Installation 04's discovery, but if it is to be understood, the only S-III equivalent to John 117 was a very enigmatic lone-wolf who had a terrifying record of making whole organizations disappear. Imagine, if you will, that Spartan-B312 was able to board the Pillar of Autumn without the risk of getting vaporized by a covenant cruiser having prevented that. It would be one of the deadliest alliances well before the events of Halo 3, and I'd imagine the Arbiter's inevitable role as an accidental ally to the Master Chief would've either never happened or been (even more-so) short-lived.

The games would have an entirely different theme for their co-op, and maintain a more significant co-op integration from within the original trilogy that's for sure. I'd imagine he'd be the dual mascot for the Xbox 360 and onwards.
