Am I too self conscious about my cooking? - I looked at my homemade French toast and now I feel like a failure.

I won't dox my cooking, but I am bad at taste testing my food now for some reason and it is causing me anxiety.

When you taste test too long, there's a point where you don't notice how much you're adding anymore.
Cooking also takes a lot of messing up to get right, so don't worry about it too much.

Get a girlfriend and figure out her reactions to meals you actually really enjoy. It doesn't actually matter what her reaction is, just the association. For example, if her reaction to your favorite delicious dish is "omg what did you do this is terrible," then so long as she says that every single time you make it? You nailed it, champ.

When I make french toast, I use, bread and egg, of course. But have you added butter or is the skillet coated in butter? Added a pinch of salt and lemon juice? Sugar? How about vanilla and cinnamon? Have you tried adding cream instead of milk?

4 eggs, Vanilla abstract, pinch of salt, cinnamon, wheat bread and 1 1/2 of whole milk. My mind goes into a schism when using different types of milk.

Mixing in cream will help the final product seem "richer" as mouths can often feel the relative fat content of a mixture.

The lemon and sugar can balance each other, but can add tartness with sweetness (a pinch of each).

You didn't mention butter, which I have found impossible to substitute (other than with baconfat) when frying many things in the kitchen.

PS Some life-hack recipes I read mention using melted ice cream when making french toast. Sounds luscious.

Abstract vanilla is not as tasty as concrete vanilla. I suggest that, next time. Also, rinse your mouth between tests. That might help.

Hey man, cooking is meant to be fun. Practice makes better! Keep at it.
