The problem I see here is that a bunch of people are being bad consumers. Really bad consumers. Ok, I see that suppliers have responsibilities too, but most of the people bitching in this thread are bad consumers who deserve to get dicked over. They can't think far ahead enough to realize: letting some random megacorp in California put content on your hard drive, without any plan for if they want to take it off your hard drive, is a bad idea.

Vote with your wallets. Don't go crying to the government if you're too dumb to do your homework.
This is how much of the shit around DRM goes. People have been talking about this issue for years, not even in the issue of them removing games you own but in terms of sheer longevity. People take for granted the current market place and players. It feels at times like the people that hate EA, Ubisoft, or Epic, but then still buy their shit despite knowing full well they are bad companies. I have no real sympathy as you caused your own suffering.

If steam goes tits up what happens to everything you own via them, what about Apple, etc.? What if there is a huge shit show or restructuring, or a buy out? There is a non zero chance that the above could likely happen and then what happens to your products? At some point you cannot even blame the companies because shit does happen. Sears was a monolith, Atari was a monolith, they are long gone or fucked over. I have been wondering about this for some time and have made a point to try buying whatever digital products I can via drm free means then backing it up on a hard drive. Not just no name rando indie shit, but big name products by big companies/games like Metro, or Stellaris.

I am not even saying you have to go full free fag "install genntoo" tier. But maybe, just maybe, search around for other shops and support companies that have other better policies of ownership. But thus far it feels akin to some tard who buys a watch from a well known shit company and is upset that the shit product they bought is shit. Then who goes begging for regulation to save them. Y'all dumb.

Try this as a jumping off point and ask around n such. https://www.defectivebydesign.org/drm-free

tl;dr If you are whining you are a stupid faggot if you didn't see this coming and get what is coming to you. Amazon is not at fault because you couldn't be bothered to look for other alternatives to buy your shitty movies on. Do actual research, or pirate.

Buying physical wont even help anymore. I know it's becoming increasingly common for physical PC games to just come with a disc that just downloads the game off dev's or stream's servers.

Piracy is ironically the best form of game preservation thus far.

You know a company quit fearing bankrupcy when they begin to pull shit like this.

The same way a government ceases to fear its people revolting, a mega corporation pretty much cease to fear any sort of backlash since they know that people are so dependent and addicted that they will keep consuming and paying even if they keep complaining.

Its honestly frightening how they go from "customer is always right" (a dumb extreme but still) to "You technically dont own jack and we can do whatever we want since we be private company, sucker. Now here is your bill from the automatic deduction from your bank account, prick."

Every game should pressed on DVDs , so devs would think twice about releasing a 100gb game.

I think games should still come on ROM cartridges. They can be as big as they like as long as I don't need to download anything or install it to my hard drive.

You bought a license. Amazon can revoke your digital purchases at any time. Legally, sure.

This is why you should preserve physical media as much as you can.

But digital media is the future!

Fuck it. Just pirate everything and burn your own copies.
