This thread's purpose: Discuss how, in a US Balkanization event (civil war), how many pieces the US would split into and what the orientation of said pieces would be.

Only doing this by states since I'm lazy, but it's important to note, as an example, that eastern WA/OR are basically Idaho and have nothing in common in the coast; many of these disparities exist.

I'll leave it to Null for a good subtitle.

It's 'graphics', not 'jraphics'

Why do American liberals always simp for their northern neighbours? There are plenty of areas of Canada (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, etc.) that have far more in common with American "red states" than they do with California or Oregon.
Because Canada is the land of the blessed "free" healthcare and that means that they're super liberal and will accept their wayward southern comrades with open arms.

It will break down along geographic lines as roads and highways decay into nothing.

The great lakes region might become the new seat of power.

Because Canadian values are based on anti-American contrarianism. The US has had a relatively strong right-wing for the past 50 years so Canada goes left, meanwhile during the progressive & New Deal eras in the States we were an Imperial lapdog run by an occultist who viewed Hitler as a Wagnerian hero (though he wasn't a fan of all his policies) and told the boat of Jews fleeing the Reich to fuck off from our white man's neighbourhood (still rated by historians as our greatest PM) . Also we herded the Injuns into mandatory residential schools until the 1950s.

I've always said that in the event of a hot civil war Hawaii, New England, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands would secede. The US mainland would split into two big tent factions and the war would end in with a mutual peace in the first 2-3 years. And I see this as the most likely (and most realistic) because that's what happened with Russia. The non-Russian groups split off to form their own nations while the Russians divided themselves between left and right and fought it out.
I also doubt that any type of secession or balkanization would happen peacefully.
