I was thinking it was so the legislative branch could get what they wanted without voting or worrying about their constituents disapproving - like why they wanted secret votes for the impeachment - but that makes sense too. Also seems much more manageable since he's proxying for fewer people.

Here’s the thing: the Republicans in office now are perfectly willing to lay down and let the Democrats walk over them as long as their donations keep coming in and their positions are secured. In addition, everyone in politics are so obsessed with image and PR and optics that the second you mention racism and bigotry, they’ll nope the fuck out. MAGA looks to be as good as dead, and Democrats will spend the rest of their lives killing it as many times as it takes.

If they can they'll go for some sort of sympathy boost and as close to the midterm elections as possible. Maybe Biden will "have a mild stroke" or "heart attack" or something and they'll try to gain votes from it. Anything to boost Harris' chances.

Would love to know how they're handling Biden behind the scenes. Like he comes into a meeting, shakes some hands sits there for the first quarter of an hour "to get things settled in" and then leaves with "she got this." In fact, you know they'll try and spin this as a positive when it comes time for transition saying "she's already been filling in for Joe a lot so she has the presidential experience already".

They simply don't have the time. You can only have one person speaking as President. Biden obviously cannot do it. You don't want to have foreign leaders, especially Putin, Xi, Kim Jong Un, and whoever is in charge in Iran not knowing who is really in charge. One of the best ways in the world to have an otherwise-manageable international incident turn into something much worse.

In the past there was nervousness in Washington whenever it took a while to name a new Soviet leader. You don't think Moscow, Beijing, Tehran and P'yongyang aren't concerned, and asking each other what the fuck is going on in Washington? Jesus...

The left was positive that Obama getting elected was the death of conservatism, and a lot of progressives and conservatives thought that Hillary Clinton losing was the death of neo-liberalism. MAGA as a brand will probably get co-opted like the Tea Party did and get dragged down by the fringe personalities. I don't see centrist ideals or right leaning populism going anywhere for at least another 2 elections.
