Eisenhower is the last president worth being seen as an influence because he was the last president who left the country in a definitively better shape than when he took office. Everyone who has followed was (or is) either mediocre, incompetent, or a scumbag that should have rot in prison. As I already said this was a rude awakening for the Ann Coulters and Stefan Molyneux's of the world. They thought they had an ideological soulmate in Trump. When in reality Trump is more of an Eisenhower/Nixon/Ford/Rockefeller Republican than a Tea Party/Alt Right Bomb Thrower. Its such a shock/"Betrayal" to them because they believed in their Hard Right ideologue fantasy version of Trump. Much to their dismay Trump is exactly what He projects to the world. A lifelong New Yorker who counts the likes of Nixon, Ford and Reagan among His influences.
I still think that Trump has a chance of making his administration decent, which we have not had in nearly sixty years. But I am not fond of how he signed a legislation into law that compromised the right to not search a place without a warrant in the Washington D.C. metropolis area which makes me wary of anything he does from here on out.
