Ubisoft has filed an opposition to two trademark registrations made by EA. Rising from concerns the EA trademark of 'Ghost' could hurt Ubisoft's existing brands, the formal opposition was filed January 29.

Specifically, Ubisoft mentions its Ghost Recon series as being specifically vulnerable should the mark be awarded to EA.

Ubisoft cites its use of Ghost Recon "in connection with video games and entertainment services" previous to EA's trademark filing in March of last year.

Currently Ubisoft is working on a new Ghost Recon game, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, announced last year during E3. It's unclear what EA plans to do should it acquire the Ghost trademark, as the company has made no ghost-based announcements at this time.

EA has until March 9 to answer the opposition, although it could request an extension. The company owns studio Ghost Games, with offices in Sweden and the UK. Ghost Games is the developer behind last year's Need for Speed reboot.

fuck it, let's just stop using the english language.
I suppose we could start naming video games like they're all Japanese RPGs or something where obviously they're just using words because they think it sounds cool but ultimately means absolutely nothing...

Call of Duty: Bullet Ocean Dream.

Assassin's Creed: Shadow of the Nexus Heart

Elder Scrolls: Pearlescent Omega Handicapped Parking

THE RIDE NEVER ENDS!

Somehow the recent shit fest of common words getting trademarked by idiots exploiting the legal system and EA's downward spiral collided and gave us this glorious conundrum.

I'm wondering if some idiots are gonna "boycott" the sims or something in response of this, and also if anyone's gonna be defending them like the few who defended the fine bros.

What's next? Is Ubisoft going to trademark the word assassin? Or Sega trademark the word Hedgehog? Or how about THQ trademarking the word dead ... oh wait.

This reminds me, what ever happened to the case where Candy Crush Saga tried to sue Banner Saga over the word "Saga"?

Banner Saga published and a sequel is in the making - was the case dropped, or did they win and set a precedent?
