For those out of loop, today the Conservative Party of Canada had elections to decide who to be their leader, and thus run in the 2019 election. The alt-right supports immigrant-hating "Mad" Maxime Bernier, but instead voters picked boring establishment shill Andrew Scheer, by a very narrow margin of 2%. To imagine how this would be in America, think of the reaction if Jeb Bush had beat Trump in the primaries by just a few votes. Reddit's home of the Canadian alt-right, /r/metacanada proceeded to sperg out.

I was actually under the impression that people thought Bernier was too soft on immigration and refugees, as he refused to take a hard stance on Mid East immigration.

Scheer, on the other hand wants to no longer abide by the UN Declaration on refugees, openly wishes to discriminate in favour of Christian refugees, weaken gun control, and increase defence spending to 2-2.5 percent of Gdp.

On the other hand, economically, Scheer is Harper 2.0 and Bernier is a libertarian through and through, who wanted to make the health are system a two tier system, destroy all government monopolies(the dairy and wheat boards) and end the supply management system.

Weedman is probably going to have to screw up pretty badly to lose the next election. He's Canada's equivalent to Obama, in that the world's press loves to give him praise for simply existing. Canadians like to look better than the US, so with Trump in office, they're gloating.

Scheer and Bernier lack the charisma to compete with that. Leitch has been painted as Canada's Trump and as Canadians get their US news almost exclusively through CNN and late night talk shows, that would've been a disaster waiting to happen.

Canada did proposed law where they'll take any kid away if they ever "doubt their own gender" and place them on "gender reassignment programs". Scheer is likely the kind of guy not opt for that and neither some reasonable parents of many political views.
