Should animals have legal rights
I say that they should not because since they are not bound by the social contract they get no rights from it. That being said it is still quite distasteful to harm animals but I would consider it to be a violation of property rights to prevent someone from harming an animal that they have legal ownership of

But no, illegally harming animals is beyond a violation of property rights. If it was merely a violation of property rights, then if the owner consented to it, that would be OK.
