@ZSponge: I was responding more to him than you.

@Trilby: The man worked at Disney and UPA, and directed for them as well; he's well above the average competency of a Coleman Francis.

The one thing I can say about King Features' animation of the time is that they produced probably the most faithful animated adaptation of Krazy Kat.

I'm sure here it was more a case of getting 50 or so cartoons to grind out and be done with them. It's just that these particular ones always came off awkward plot-wise. Don't forget they farmed this out to like 6-7 studios and in a few countries to boot.

You can thank Gene Deitch for maintaining it on his end.

It's kind of a wonder there hasn't been an atrocity review of a Gene Deitch Tom and Jerry, now that you think of it.

People keep saying they suck, but there's still enough fans that they're releasing them all on DVD this June. (Maybe Gene himself will do some audio commentary.)

If would be nice if they do (I've heard there's going to be a featurette, at least it's something).

I will say I admire Deitch's later work for Weston Woods.

Here's something he did during the Prague Spring!

Some would call this an 'abomination' as well. He was also set to adapt E. B. White's "Charlotte's Web" until one American producer got cold feet and picked Hanna-Barbera instead.

I think he actually doesn't care and has seen it considering in his top 11 things he wouldn't review video, He mentions that all 80's cartoons that are toybased and racist 50's cartoons are products of their time. It is possible that he has seen Bucky and Pepito and wrote it off as a product of its time along with anything else that is bad from those days.
If he thinks those were just "products of their time" (and yeah, some of those old-time war cartoons are). Then he's got no right to review anything. SB and MLP included.
