Well, Douchecanoe and The Straight Man are pretty bare bones characters themselves (being the douchecanoe and straight man foil respectively), but at least they had, moments, THINGS, that didn't boil down to "I'm greatly, aggressively, gay for Penny, but in a tsundere way."
