The shitstorm over Interspecies Reviewers is worrying, I sure hope Japan doesn't get a bug up it's ass about sexual content like the west has.

But Japan has always had a diehard conservative element, we are talking a country that censors genitals in porn as if that makes any sense or the country that has over 9000 porn video games but mainstream games with CERO ratings don't allow topless women.

Anime has probably only been allowed to get away with what it gets away with for so many years due to simply flying under the radar.
Eh like me and Steamboat said this isn't new.

Go Nagai hated the Japanese PTA to the point he had them all violently killed in one of his mangas.

And Gundam IBO caused a similar shitstorm when it was airing. * although they had a point about that one I think *

It airs at 1:30 in the fucking morning what kid is watching TV at that hour? Besides, if they have any premium channels they can find softcore.

PTA moms should be considered a global threat. Fucking christ. Nobody wants to control their kids. They want Mr. Government and Mr. Corporation to do it.
To be fair, I was first introduced to Adult Swim back when I was a wee skel, and I was frequently up well past midnight throughout my middle and high school years. I wasn't supposed to be, of course, but that's part of the appeal, isn't it? Getting away with things you know you're not supposed to is always fun. I did get caught more than once, but I had anime to watch, so it wasn't like that was going to stop me. The only thing that did was when Adult Swim killed weeknight anime, the bastards.

That doesn't mean these PTA-types have a good point, of course. If your kid's misbehaving, deal with it yourself, don't go crying to the nanny state about the potential of your children seeing giant cow tiddies.

I really like them but I've only seen ones that have gotten anime adaptations (slimesekai, overlord etc). do you have any other recommendations in this vein

These all more, or less fit the bill. The first one is fairly Ecchi (which you may, or may not like), the second one is great but really slow paced (brief loli warning though), and the third one I think is likely the best, but it only somewhat fits into the city builder category because the MC bounces around so much. Sadly they're all Isekais other than the one I posted earlier, though I'd say the 3rd one is kind of an isekai lite, since the other world characters aren't really in the driver's seat so to speak. The third one likely has the best humor if you like that kind of thing. When the other world characters are in the driver's seat, it's actually hilarious because they cause the main character to do some really out of character things.

I don't know who casually brought up Death Party/Parade/Billiards here, but I want to thank you. The OP made me curious enough to try it, and I wound up binging the entire season over the weekend.

The writing is solid, the animation is beautiful, and the music and direction are fucking gorgeous.

Streisand effect in action. The more they try to bury the anime tiddies, the more people become aware of their existence. It's hilarious to me that people still don't get this very basic fact.

I started watching In/Spectre and Somali this week. Still have to catch up on them, but I'm really enjoying them so far. Somali gives me Ancient Magus' Bride vibes with the "big monster paired with cute anime girl in a fantastical world" premise, except father/daughter instead of husband/wife. Very beautiful artwork, and the fact that the golem is voiced by Jotaro is just icing on the cake. I'm just waiting for the inevitable heartbreak (also like Ancient Magus' Bride).

Side discussion: are there any other series that have made you emotional for any reason? After the Rain was one for me, a melancholy love story between a high school girl and her older washed-up boss. Sounds a little odd when I put it that way, but it was a really interesting and moving story to me. Kino's Journey is another (the original, I haven't seen the more recent anime), just a simple tale of a girl and her talking motorcycle traveling around and finding a lot of sad stories along the way.
In this corner of the world is a beautifully depressing movie about how America just made the lives of Japanese citizens absolutely miserable because the imperial government wouldn't surrender. I lost Family to the Japanese in WWII and even I felt bad when they got to the scene when they issued the surrender and the protagonists just breaks down crying wondering what the point of all of it was.

One thing I'll say about this season: it's great for big tiddy lovers.

Even if you ignore the ridiculous amount of tits in Interspecies Reviewers, you've got Nana and Lynn in Plunderer (and the preview for this week's episode showed another girl with a big rack coming in), Steel Lady Nanase in In/Spectre (and Saki to an extent), and Nikaidou and Noi in Dorohedoro. Subtler large tits in ID:Invaded as well. And those are just the shows I've been watching, so I might be missing some.

All hail the year of the cowtits.

ETA: Speaking of cowtits, looks like the no-fun-allowed admins at MAL have finally purged the site of wrongthink and removed a bunch of Interspecies Reviewers' ratings. It's now down to a 7.6. RIP.
Back in my day every season was a great season for tiddy lovers.

On an anime related note I bought the Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy

UNS1

Pretty decent game overall though the controls are a bit stiff

I like the mobility you have in the open world

The Way it tells the story is pretty Tismy (For the record I'm up to the Chunin Exams in the anime). They cut out the entire first arc and with the exception of the boss levels the whole story is told via text crawls) The worst part is in the Sasuke retrieval portion of the game where you have to fight the same guy 4-5 times in a row.

Didn't much care for the Boss fights against the Giant Frog and Ultimate Gaara though I did enjoy the fights against Orichamaru and Cursed Sasuke.

I hate how ino order to continue progressing the story you have to grind the challenges to get xp

Speaking of Challenges Im not a fan of the way they are handled (IE finish the fight with 2 health bars, beat your foe with jutsu, dodge x amount of times). Smash Ultimate does this concept better

Overall a decent start to the series 7/10

UNS2

In this game I''ve just beaten the Rescue Gaara arc

The presentation is a massive improvement and does a much better job with its story mode than the first game

Controls feel far more smooth and responsive than the last game

Boss fights are also a major step up from 1

I like the fixed camera angles in the overworld they remind me of old school JRPGs

That said I hate how the mobility in the overworld was stripped back

Overall its so far an improvement over UNS 1

And what was the point of it all? It was so weirdly hubristic and foolish for Japan to try to control the rest of Asia by force not to mention pissing off America.

Thankfully they corrected course and became the Japan we all know and love today, but that was definitely a black mark on their history and a sad waste of life.

Will be busy today, unfortunately not because I've got a girl waiting for me. So for all the kindred spirits out there, I've set up fourteen random chapters from fourteen random works that can be enjoyed without needing too much context. The servers probably won't, though...

I tried pulling unique stuff out of my followed list, so I hope you have fun.

Chapter 15.jpg

Kemono Jihen - Not a romcom for once, but a story about half-breed youkai investigating mysteries throughout Japan. The protagonist is one of those "autistic by upbringing" types, so the topic of love is surprisingly significant.

Taisho Wotome Otogibanashi - A very young man is cast from society to live in a secluded mansion after a car crash paralyzed his writing arm and killed his mother. Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou - More of a sitcom than a romantic comedy due to the cast of colorful characters living within the same household, with plenty of hilarity following a boy's misadventures in his pursuit of a literature autist.
1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg4.jpg5.jpg6.jpg7.jpg8.jpg9.jpg10.jpg11.jpg12.jpg13.jpg14.jpg15.jpg16.jpg

Of course, things get awry when it turns out the girl you're trying to hire is actually one of said angels, who now has you by the balls. Maybe if you can get her to fall in love with you...

Someone did their best to remaster - from VHS - the somewhat obscure 1986 OVA California Crisis: Gun Salvo, if you want an anime that looks like the cover to a Duran Duran album this may be for you. It's a funky one-off that was intended to have a sequel but the tiny production company behind it was rather short-lived and it has some of the best & the worst qualities of OVAs of the 1980s OVA boom. Interesting production values, but the story is just sort of flimsy and "there", as often happened with all of these one-offs.

The production company, Studio Unicorn, had done key and finish animation on various productions like Dirty Pair: Affair on Nolandia, Lupin III: Part 3, VOTOMS, etc. and started producing their own works, a one-episode OVA about motorcycle racing and then this, which turned out to be their last production ever. The overall production and distribution was by Hiro Media Associates, a short-lived company that attempted to dominate the then nascent OVA scene. Only in the 80s could an anime like California Crisis be made and I mean that in both the positive and negative senses.

Yeah, the OVA scene had a lot of Anime contract studios making their own titles between credits for Toei, Sunrise and Pierrot:

(Anime R and sister company Studio Mu attempt sci-fi with cute girls)

(Before Love Lab and that Dumbbell anime, Dogakobo gave us "3 Men and a Baby, but with aliens!")

(Nakamura Production shows off their Lovecraft fetish)

I read several chapters of that one a few weeks ago. It's basically what it would be like if Raphiel from Gabriel Dropout was a little more sadistic (yet tsundere) in her toying with Satanichia instead of just trolling her.

I like to think of it as Kaguya written (and drawn by) a hentai mangaka. And that's not a complaint about derivativeness, I just think it retained the original concept better, especially now that Kaguya is awkward teen drama.
