TPN adaption makes perfect sense since brutalizing kids somehow became a supposedly very deep thunking concept (and totally not masturbatory material for psychopaths) rather than the very depths of entertainment. Apperantly progressivism leads to the same entertainment as the dawn of mankind.

Would a remake of Fist of the North Star be cool? I really like the show, but I understand why some people might be turned off from it-there's a lot of filler and the animation isn't exactly the best, even for it's era. Also, almost everything post-Raoh kinda blows. In the same way that JoJo has had a resurgence in popularity, I think Fist of the North Star could stand to be remade, too.

I mean it has HUGE Darling in the Franxx vibes, starts off as horror but clearly isn't, and becomes an escape story. Also lol at anyone who thinks Norman is dead. No body, not confirmed.

Shit, don't be gay in Japan.

I liked the first season. Like allot of things it cannot fulfill the promise, no pun intended, and I'll still enjoy the great moments, Darling in the Franxx was half shit and half a good show. Trigger today. Is BNA bad too?

Lots of stuff deserves a remake. Negami fans, Tsukihime, the line is lonnnngggg.

funny enough it has the opposite problem. there's no stakes cause nobody dies or even gets hurt most of the time. I don't actually remember a single kid dying after the first one who was just there to scare the reader and set up the stakes. some no-name teenagers get hurt enough to need stitches and slings during the goldy pond battle but that's it.

also it just ended today. it was dumb and nothing happened. seeya tpn, you were good for a couple arcs and went to shit like so many other manga.

Kinda. It has good and fun moments but it also feels like the plot was setting up one thing in the first half until it suddenly swerved towards another direction at the last moment. They also recycle a plot twist from Promare in pretty much exactly the same way to the point where it's just baffling that they actually went for it. During that moment everything grinds to a halt in order for a character to deliver a longass monologue to explain why the plot twist is even a thing here. Well, I guess they recycled that plot twist again so that they could have a flashy action scene near the end.

Anything FOTNS is cool by default but the last anything related to it we got was the CGI Souten no Ken anime. You don't want to tempt fate like that again.

Aside from Kill la Kill, it seems Trigger really likes to recycle their own plot lines all the time and it’s concerning

Aside from BNA, anyone got any anime to recommend? I'm wondering what shows are worth watching right now? I recently rewatched Evangelion for the 3/4th time (unsure) and I haven't followed recent anime in a while.

I like to use anichart to keep track of seasonal anime. It's a dynamic chart that shows you descriptions and genres of stuff that's going to air depending on the season. Right now the default page is summer 2020 which is going to be the stuff airing after the current series, but if you click spring 2020 you can see the stuff that's been airing recently and will mostly end next week. Though that being said there's some shows that started in this season but got corona delayed and only have a limited amount of episodes out that will continue next month instead.

As for stuff that aired recently that I'd recommend, I'd say Hamefura/Otome game no hametsu flag is good if you're fine with a female-lead harem comedy, and Nami yo kiitekure if you want a workplace comedy series. I enjoyed Gal to kyouryuu, Fugou keiji and Appare ranman too but they got corona'd and I dunno when they will finish.

If anyone has recommendations for comedy/slice of life animes in line with Working!! I'd appreciate it, something that is grounded in reality but always light in tone even when they try to add in romance drama. That show, and even the www.Working spinoff, really could have gone for another season or so without impacting the quality.

I'm split on this.

I'll defend the original show for it's filler to a point: most of the filler is in the first 30 episodes since they rushed to animate it while the manga was still being made. But after watching the show again, I found it kind of gave Shin more weight in the story rather than just be four or five chapters into the comic when Kenshiro arrives at his throne and kicks his ass.

However some of the anime only characters are just bad like the afro vampire thing and fat cop. At least it gave us Ken kicking a tank to death. But like I said, after 30 episodes it kind of aligns with the comic beyond a few changes for censorship reason (kids being killed in comic replaced with adults usually).

If David Production got Hokuto, it'd probably be a vast improvement for the franchise as a whole but considering the most recent Hokuto show, Fist of the Blue Sky part 2 or whatever was all CGI I'm not holding my breath.

There are a lot of OVA's reanimated segmants and expanding the plot though, love the Souther one.

Also the Legend of the Dark King anime about Raoh's rise to power is awesome.

Non Non Biyori has a character, Komari Koshigaya, that's as short for her age as Popura and with the exact same voice actress, Kana Asumi. It is light slice of life but it's about kids growing up in a tiny mountain village with a lot of rice fields so it doesn't have the same workplace environment.

I remember people comparing Servant x Service (which I haven't seen) to Working! in that they're both workplace comedies.

IIRC one of the evil human dudes murdered a few of them because they didn't have the nerve to shoot another human and were only saved because a demon showed up and ate him for them

Just play the Koei games and read the manga. They're about the same thing.

So I just finished Helen ESP and I thought it was fucking great. I found it because one of my favorite manga is Franken Fran by the same author, and was looking at what else they made. It didn’t disappoint.
Basically, it follows this deaf, blind, and dumb girl who also is starting to develop her ESP powers. Along with her dog and my main nigga, her uncle who took her in after the accident that handicapped Helen and killed her parents.
The tone is hard to describe, kind of esoteric I guess. Where Franken Fran was about horror, there’s little of that in Helen ESP. There’s some dark stuff, but it mainly tries to go a more hopeful route. There are moments that actually got me a little choked up, but in a good way.
Overall, it’s very short but very good. If you are looking for something a bit odd but also a good story, I’d give Helen ESP a shot.
I want to thank you for the recommendation. It's a really good small series that hits the heartwarming point almost every chapter. Pretty much the opposite of Franken Fran in terms of cynicism and believe in humanity. Hopefully there will be some continuation or conclusion where the girl regains her senses (preferably without help from Fran), though she is happy being as she is now.

I’m glad you liked it. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did, it was one of those rare experiences of just stumbling upon something that just grabs you.

I kinda hope that after Ufotable is finished with Fate/Stay, they'll do Tsukihime. I just hope their head getting in legal and tax problems doesn't kill the studio.

Also see that Higurashi is getting a remake, not sure why though. I thought DEEN actually did a good job on it. Not sure how you beat the opening scene of the series.

Given that that's actually how the series opens up (with Keiichi's inner monologue in the silence with cicadas and mentioning someone's apologizing to him over and over again), I'm thinking they're going to drop the flash-forward scenes before the start of each new arc. My biggest hope is that they're going to adapt the other arcs (the manga-only and PSP-exclusive arcs), or will have a bit more episodes per arc to get the fuller experience. But honestly, Chiaki Kon I think did a fantastic job with condensing the series, and I think it's sad she had dropped the ball with Umineko, but Higurashi will forever hold a special place in my heart for scaring the living shit out of me while still making me adore the setting and characters. And that badass music, too, I don't know how they're going to do the music for the remake.

I wanna keep an optimistic open mind with this because Higurashi hasn't really had a terrible time being adapted into anything, but Keiichirou Kawaguchi's filmography is... a mixed bag to say the least. There's some real stinkers he's directed, and I hope that's just because the source material was just shit (though from what I've heard about Island, the actual visual novel wasn't terrible, the anime was just that bad).

Higurashi's music is fantastic, and that first OP is still great. I'm just not convinced it needs a remake or that there's much to improve upon, but if it brings more people in watch the Original or get into Ryukishi's works, it'll be worth it. I don't think there was much you could have done with Umineko, to be honest. It's a very inner monologue heavy series and you'd need a lot of time to develop each episode. Also the Anime's Rosa Momma Bear moment was just lacking in the anime. You can't do Worldend Dominator like that. I am kinda glad they didn't get to the second half, it got messy after episode 5 and Ryukishi's mystery loving friend died. I really feel that if you're going to sell me a mystery and all that, you can't just end like it did and "Subvert expectations" like it. Also still salty over the Beatrice reveal, it felt like Ryukishi went with the fan theory that fits with his need to be shocking the best.

I have friends who always watch the seasonal anime with the shortest name, I believe they drew Island for it's release season. If I remember, the anime really is that bad.

I think I get why a remake is happening, though. Not everyone is interested in taking the time out to read the sound novel, because it's pretty long, although Steam has helped it reach more people, which is great. Not everyone (in the Western world) reads manga, so even though the Higurashi manga is out there and does the sound novel justice, it's still a niche market, and some people just don't want to read pictures, I guess. Which is stupid because then that makes them reading subs all the more hypocritical, but anime sounds more attractive to people and you can reach a wider audience through the TV/computer.

But it sounds more likely than not they're going to make more money with this anime selling more merchandise that way. There's parts of the sound novel that never made it into the anime (we didn't get more of Rena's POV during the Atonement arc, for instance, and Shion and Mion's true relationship was skipped in the anime I think because of time constraints), and we have Miotsukushi-hen from Matsuri and Kizuna which is apparently considered to be the true ending or at least is a more satisfying ending than Festival Accompanying. I think if anything else, we're going to see more arcs be animated, but they're arcs that can't really be stand-alone arcs like with Outbreak (even though that still relies on proper knowledge of the series, but it was still fresh in people's minds at the time).

Issue about this is we don't have much information about what to expect with this anime, so we can only speculate what they're going to do with this. At the same time, current circumstances have made the timing on this really unfortunate, honestly. The stuff that goes on in Higurashi is...... yeah.

But if this goes over well, maybe we'll get a proper Umineko adaptation. I sure as hell would like that due to having no ability to play the sound novel, and while I'm slowly reading the manga, it's so dense that I have to take time out to read it, but that means forgetting details so I end up going back and I feel like I'm the one going mad over it lol.
