The problem with western influences on anime is that the current big thing in the west is victimhood, which is way too much of a departure from anime that is almost entirely about sucking your own cock.

I mean, I'm not sure. For the West, the movement originated here so it infected our entertainment. I guess it remains to be seen. Japan is extremely xenophobic.

What MIGHT happen is that the works that get translated and get exported are more Western friendly while more the Japanese friendly stays over there, so I think at worst it will split the hobby. Where the true weebs will go for fansubs and scans, while the normies will just pay Funimation and shit. I just don't think that a cultural movement that's very alien to Japan and China is strong enough to fundamentally change the whole thing.

I mean, the Love Hina guy testified to protect creative freedom and nearly everyone in the Diet agreed with him so I think its going to be a lot harder and I personally don't think the movement will last long enough to penetrate into that culture.

Garden of Sinners is some good shit.

I was actually wondering if you'd gotten to it yet. I feel like there's things the UBW anime does that you can only really grasp in light of KnK, especially the 5th movie. I forget if the 8th one, the Epilogue, beats you over the head with who and what Shiki is. And Mirai Fukuin is really about just how far she'll go for a good babysitter.

And because I didn't link it before, some kind soul stitched together Shiki's theme from seven different movies. The transition around 1:44 is solid.

Aria's gold too, Yuki Kajiura outdid herself.

I got the impression they always consumed western entertainment quite often to a degree for a long time.

Hollywood action, sci-fi, and neo-noir movies were huge in Japan in the '80s, that's why there was a lot of manly men leaving rivers of blood in their wake from the enemies they punched to oblivion, voluptuous beautiful women, and post-apocalyptic dystopians rivaling Mad Max in manga and anime back then. Some of them are still popular franchises to this day to keep that testosterone flowing, but that idea of a sex god Adonis power fantasy has been replaced with the wimpified high school senior boy #9254 somehow still surrounding himself with a hot harem who won't let him touch their boobies without getting smacked and/or humiliated we see today. Also the isekai changed.

I do enjoy the comedy anime that turn the “mc gets beat up by women” thing on its head.

Some Westerners hate it, they disdain the OVA as being a cheap, schlocky adaption of a cheap, schlocky grossout manga, in Japan the manga almost won a Tezuka Award and influenced a ton of stuff. The manga's great if you can look at gross drawings that aren't even as gross as people say.

Among people who like it, Keita Amemiya.

Most of my favorite animes dont even last a season, for whatever reason (probably because theyre crap)

Do you mean late night anime that run for one seasonal "cour" (12 or 13 episodes, sometimes with an OVA bonus episode or two) but then never get a second "season"?

The usual reason is that they don't sell enough DVDs or Blu-Rays to continue although there are also cases like Gabriel Dropout where the first season produced covered most of the manga that was published at that point and they have to wait several years for there to be more manga to adapt.

Sometimes publishers will only commission one season as publicity for the manga or light novel the series is based on (although, if the anime had sold really well on physical media, it would have greatly increased the chances of a second season being made even if the publishers weren't banking on it being a huge hit).

Well there's this:

I wonder what anime will look like under China’s surveillance/influence
Pretty much the same except no fanservice (banned in China), less skeletons and time travel, and anything that looks like it would appeal to fujos or yurifags is censored/never made. Oh, and endless sequels to shitty isekai because that's what China likes.
I just placed an order for Discotek titles at Robert's Anime Corner Store (only because I couldn't find Gun Frontier on torrents). Neither of them have posted BLM shit. If they bamboozle me, too, I'll be officially done with buying. Not gonna pay the bald dickhead Bezos to sponsor joggers wrecking small businesses.
Discotek does good work in bringing obscure shit to the West and translating it better than godawful HK-subs, but they don't deserve a cent of your money because one of their bosses is a certain asshole named Mike Toole who obsesses on Twitter over the Vic Mignogna case and sucked off Zac Bertschy's rotting corpse. And oh yeah, Black Lives Matter too, because of course.

If anything influences Anime it'll be China and that's what the Love Hina guy was referring to.

their prices are cheaper (looking at the Captain Harlock DVD, for example, that's actually pretty good). You won't get used copies from them, but you can sell used to them or I think even through the site.
They do sell used copies now. Also, you have excellent taste, good sir.

True (Anglophone) weebs should learn Japanese. Anyone can learn one foreign language. Outside of the Anglo world, that language is English, but within, at ground zero of woke culture, people are free to learn what thet want, and if they don't pick Japanese they aren't true weebs.

They also hired at least one troon.
However.
I'm used to the fact that no matter what I do, someone unsavory is going to profit from it. The taxes I pay, the food I eat, utility bills, electronics, clothes. If I don't draw the line somewhere, I'll have to go into seclusion into Siberian wilderness, and I'm not sure if that would be a victory or defeat. "No corporate wokeness" seems to be a reasonable and defensible stance.
