Is City Hunter good? (Are the women in the show prominent or simply eye candy)
I heard its kinda like Police Story
It's pretty good, Tho, as per the fans, the manga is more complete. However, it's not fully translated, it's pretty close tho.

After City Hunter, there's also a spin-off. Which I never read due to still-waiting-to-complete City Hunter manga. Tho, it's also only translated around 50 chapters, out of I think 200. So you can't get into it, unless you know Chinese, cause that's the only version all of it is translated now.

Funny you should mention Police Story, since jackie Chan starred in the live-action movie version of City Hunter.

Here it is without any subtitles.
How did my Jackie Chan fan of a dad not know of this? He'd could've been unknowingly exposed to an anime had he gotten this--though it could be because it didn't get a dub? Or he just missed out on the DVD distribution.

So I've been watching horror anime on and off in prep for Halloween, most of that evil anime time was taken up by 'When They Cry' since its 50 episodes. Then I started watching the new series. Which at first billed itself as a remake and then goes 'LOL ITS A SEQUEL but we're going to completely retread all of the shit you already know while ignoring some critical stuff from the first series'.

I have many, many fucking questions.

1) The story is obviously still following the first arc in the manga where Keiichi goes apeshit from the disease and all the shit with his friends are red herrings. This was supposed to be from Rikla's perspective, right? So why the fuck are we still seeing it from Keiichi?

2) Rika is COMPLETELY spoiled in episode 2, with the shitty fucking creators going 'LOL NOT A REMAKE'. Then why the fuck is everything NEARLY IDENTICAL? She knew everything, why don't any of her friends have Deja-Vu or flashbacks? Are they trying to do a 100% run of the first arc with no deaths? Rika knows everything right? So why are they retreading very, VERY old ground? Isn't this a chance to do things differently? At this point, every new viewer across the spectrum has been warned off of this series. So fucking boring.

3) Its made pretty damn clear in the first series that the final world was Rika's last jump. So...what happened? Why is she transported back to the first arc? Why is Hanyu still weak? Why if this is a remake do we have to power through old shit with very little changes (Takano & Tomitake disappearing instead of dead). But what about Takano's body double? That was Rika's massive complication, because the body double really throws a wrench into finding out what was going on. Did she like, prep shit in advance and we're just not seeing it?

4) Rika knows that Keiichi succumbs to the syndrome, so why is she not warning him?

5) The first arc omits Shion, who is hugely important to the plot. So where is she?

All tension is actually completely removed from this show because I know exactly what is going on, save for very very small bits of new things. Maybe comprising less than a minute of the three episodes so far. So far I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out why this was even made. Who is this for? For people who have already seen the show, its just repeating the first arc. Its also going slower too. We're on episode 3, but this is where episode 2 was in the original anime. I thought they might power through arcs since they only have 20 episodes, not 50. But its going slower with less information.

We already know what is going on with Keiichi he's having paranoid delusions from Hinamizawa Syndrome, none of the conspiracy he imagines among his friends is actually real so everyone is basically just waiting for the end of the arc. It was really frustrating and boring to watch. How are they going to resolve that if they're doing a 100% run, nobody really dies? Or are they just going to undo all of their progress from the first series (which would be fucking infuriating)? I don't know, it just feels utterly pointless to me. I don't know how other people who know how this resolved felt any tension at all, since the plots are nearly identical. Its basically me just watching it, waiting for something new to happen or maybe 95% old with a small 'twist' to make it new. Nowhere near enough for a justifiable sequel.

So many anime series don't get updated or reworked when their manga's finish. But now we have this '''sequel''' that is 99% the same with 1% different. Granted, the 1% is huge, but only destroys the previous work, instead of building on it which a sequel's purpose. This whole exercise seems pointless to me. Either change the whole fucking thing or go straight remake. Don't bother draining the tension or adding in a 'twist' for people who know what is going to happen, like 'Oh you were supposed to be tense because its different this time around!' We've had enough of this shit with M. Night Douchebag. Like go fuck yourself, seriously.

So guess I'm just gonna be talking about Higurashi every week and pointing out why this isn't working out as well as its previous incarnations.

First off: Detective Delicious looks fine. DEEN made him look rather older in comparison to how he actually looks in the sound novel, but even though he's of retirement age, he doesn't have the wrinkles, which even the sprites don't really have. So that's good. I'm okay with Ooishi.

Second, we actually got to finally see Keiichi's dad in anime-form. He looks like what you'd expect from a painter.

Third: there's slight differences indeed from Onikakushi-hen. This change so far doesn't feel out-of-place, like what if Keiichi never went to talk to Tomitake and Takano at the river? On top of not getting to hear about Oyashiro's curse, they both disappear. No body has come up. So he has to learn about the curse from Ooishi when he brings him in for questioning, but since there's no body, he can't talk about how Tomitake died. He goes on about the curse in the car (even though he goes "You don't believe in curses, but here's the curse anyway" like wut), and here's where I have to say I prefer how the depictions of the victims looked in the DEEN anime more than Passione's take.

He does say to Keiichi to not ask Mion and the others about it, and then Keiichi comes in at the end of the not-Clue game to partake in the punishment game of buying Mion's groceries, which is in the game.

But now, why is it then that Keiichi overhearing Mion and Rena isn't as tense as it is in the original?

It's not raining.

Um, sorry, but that takes away from the atmosphere. It was raining in the sound novel, too, why is it that it doesn't rain in this world? How dull.

Ooishi takes Keiichi to Angel Mort before Keiichi could ask Rena if they're lying to him. Hell, they don't even have a scene of him cleaning up after the game and learning about Satoshi, which is super important that he learns his name. So are we to assume that's another difference, is that Keiichi is NOT going to learn about Satoshi? So what happens instead is after his eavesdropping, the scene cuts to him walking home and Ooishi picks him up to take him out to dinner instead of calling him up to talk about the curse in more detail. In fact, originally he takes him out to lunch when Keiichi chooses to stay home after learning Rena came to his house (this incident happens that night after the USO DA! scene, so Keiichi feigns being sick over it), and that's how he learns more about his friends and their connection to the victims.

Also did Ooishi seriously suggest that the druggie they arrested who killed himself in his cell was actually Teppei? What?

Um, Teppei wasn't ever on drugs. He's a drunk child abuser and a pimp, but he's not a junkie. In fact, after his wife's murder, he actually left Hinamizawa to go live with his mistress and be part of a badger game. Unless in this world he DID take drugs or this is part of the deception of the arc, this is completely wrong.

Also fucking LOL this shot. They just dissolved a dark transparent filter over it as they zoom into his face here.

Meanwhile, Passione fucked up with Rena's transformation here. We only ever saw her eyes twice, but the whole point of the eyes is that once she starts poking holes in Keiichi's story, her demeanor changes, and it's not just in her voice, it's also her eyes. The eyes are actually a signature part of the series, and they only showed the eyes twice in the scene. And the sad part is these shots look great, but throwing her face into shadow doesn't make for great tension to build up to that "USO DA!" jumpscare.

They should've panned up her face here to show her eyes, seriously.

Keiichi wasn't on the phone with Ooishi for very long. Like he's explaining the history of Hinamizawa and the curse to him originally, but since he already did in Angel Mort, here, he says he was doing some research into Rena. When there wasn't any need for it because he only looks into Rena's history when he's telling Keiichi how connected the deaths were to his friends. Keiichi at this point doesn't have any motive for being suspicious of his friends, he just is. So you can't believe that Rena also stood outside of his door listening in for the half-hour or so he was talking to Ooishi. Yeah, the passage of time in the DEEN anime wasn't really there, either, but again, he was so invested in Ooishi's explanation of the curse that he lost track of time. There's literally no reason for him to be so deeply invested in Rena's brief history alone since Ooishi hadn't brought it up to him previously.

A shame, too, because the cutaways to her slowly walking in the hallway and then showing her peering in at the door is good. Footsteps are also crucial to Higurashi, so if in the next episodes they have Keiichi believing he's hearing footsteps behind him, it could make for a nice callback. But then again, he wouldn't have been able to hear her footsteps while on the phone. Guess this is just a wink to the fans about footsteps.

The passage of time really is clunky, too, they just keep jumping to the next day and not giving us time to digest what's going on. It's no wonder there's nothing to be scared of, we're not being allowed to scare ourselves over this. "Oh, well, the fans know what's going on." No, we want to be scared even though we know all of this! Scare us, don't bore us just because we already know the story!

5) The first arc omits Shion, who is hugely important to the plot. So where is she?
I mean, Shion wasn't introduced until the second arc. Makes sense she wouldn't be here in a similar Onikakushi-hen world. Honestly shocked they didn't throw her into the background of Angel Mort in episode three as a wink to the audience, they're just being so odd with this anime.

I want this to be good, I really do. I want to believe in this, but these strange decisions just aren't working due to how fucked the pacing is. It baffles me.

I'm looking for a series that i swear i read about here but can't find the thread or posts.

it's a 4 panel with two crudely drawn girls and they do sardonic pop culture stuff (i think). it's from 2012 ( i think) but the girls looks like ovals or homestar runnerish. they also have an anime.

EVANGELION: 3.0+1.0 now has a release date | 1/23/2021
I still haven't finished 3.0, got like halfway in and just turned it off. No idea if I'll try getting through it just so I can watch 3.0+1.0 and be done with the series, really didn't like the direction 3.0 seemed to be taking. The only parts I liked (that I watched) were the Kaworu/Shinji moments and I think when Shinji was talking to Fuyutsuki because almost everyone else was treating Shinji like garbage while not telling him anything. Asuka's character design change was also pretty neat. I couldn't stand how most of the characters were acting. I'm curious if they're going to try and redo EoE or try something new.

Wonder if Anno just wants to be done with the series as a whole and do other things. I remember reading about him working on one of the new Ultraman movies with Shinji Higuchi directing and he seemed more excited for that than how I've seen him talk about eva. I'm almost betting he's just doing whatever for 3.0+1.0 just so it's over so he can focus on the Ultraman movie, which is apparently a dream project of his. Can't really fault him for that.

Osomatsu san is back and I'm trying to think of something interesting to say about it but in a way it just feels like business as usual. The whole point of the first episode is that the boys are still useless assholes and we're back to the same status quo there always has been. Tbh I'm fine with that cause I feel like for a comedy it's fine to have a status quo to return to.

It is odd, because DEEN nailed the pacing and Ryukishi is usually on point with it as well. I also thought the OP seeming to tease bits from Umineko was odd as well. There's only really a handful of connections, unless we're going to turn this into a witch's game.

I actually 100% the PS4 Dream Tank Match game, it basically felt like an anime World of Tanks.

If you get the DX dlc, the panzerfestival mode gives it an extended lifetime. It's pretty quick, and the random team member element makes it a nice slosh of fun and frustrating. the type 10 is OP
